That was hard to watch. Glad to hear the three of you are ok! Good luck with the next steps of figuring out insurance and replacement.

OP-glad you & family are ok. I hope the woman that hit your car gets what she deserves. You sound like a nice man. But, you're in for a lot of time spent on resolving something that wasn't your fault. All the best.

This weekend, my pregnant wife and I were unfortunately rear ended waiting at a red light on a freeway exit ramp. The other driver took off on foot (later apprehended) but their Nissan Versa was destroyed in the crash. We spent the rest of the day in the hospital checking on my wife and baby and thankfully everything looks okay.

I am so amazed and thankful how the Rivian fared in the collision and how much it absorbed the damage. Our airbags didn't even go off (the hospital said it would really good they didn't) while the other vehicle looked destroyed and had all their airbags deployed. Looking back at the footage, it didn't even look like they attempted to slow down and only veered left at the last second. I dread to think how we would have fared had we been in my wife's older, compact vehicle and am grateful we were in the R1T.

Going forward, I don't know (and don't look forward as I don't think the other party has insurance) to how the repair process will go or if this will be considered a total, based off some of the other repair threads I've seen on here but I now have so much faith in the Rivian's safety. We have a reservation for a R2 to replace my wife's car and hope that I can either get this repaired or replaced with another R1T. A few friends have also expressed interest in getting a Rivian now after seeing how this turned out.

Rivians have excellent safety ratings and it shows in real world accidents. They are worth every dime for so many reasons.

Glad everyone is ok! Every time I see an accident like this I'm hesitant to move to a smaller vehicle. R2 should be pretty safe though.
‘Good save!’ Please heal physically and emotionally,
The word accident is being replaced with crash.
So much time is spent on ‘investigations’ - costing millions in lost time, fuel, missed flights, appointments……
Ask me it’s almost always impairment and/ or distraction.
Because one chooses to imbibe, partake, look at a screen, or converse accident is a loose term.
Good thing it was a roller skate not a truck

Impressive that they not only reacted slowly to trying to go around you, but also didn't even try to hit the brakes.

Glad you and your family are all okay.

Appreciate the support and well wishes from everyone. An update from the incident report: the other driver was confirmed to be driving under the influence, with multiple prior DUIs, a suspended license, and no insurance.

Happy to hear you're all ok, hopefully the driver of other car has better days ahead (I've learned to not judge as everyone has/had a demon to fight). Makes me never want to take my motorcycle out again...but then I do every summer.

Glad your wife and future child seem to be unharmed. Such a safe vehicle. My favorite feature I hope I never use.

Glad all 3 of you are ok!

But I hate to say it... Start shopping for your new vehicle. That will be totaled. I can see frame buckling in the photos, plus the side panel.. Yea. totalled.

As always, F = MA which is why my family will only ever own trucks and/or 6K+ lbs SUVs.

Very glad you and your wife and child were not hurt AND that they caught the perp!

I literally just got my R1S back after 5 months from being rear-ended after owning it only 17 months; thankfully, it wasn't totalled since the frame wasn't bent but it was a $29K+ repair. See onboard camera views below.
