Jeep has a very reliable system. It is a closed system, which helps with reliability too.
BMW also uses a closed-air suspension. My understanding is that Rivian is pulling air from outside, right?

I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey that has some knocking coming from the front suspension. Got a quote from the dealer to replace the front strut for $1300 and the tie rod ends for another $900.

Considering the level of complexity of the suspension in the Rivian, $4k is a lot of money but it also isn't outlandish.
Not the same - you have a choice - you can go to different shops and you also can buy the part and DYI if you want.

With Rivian you are locked into a monopoly that can charge as much as they want.

From what I've read, Rivian is an open system. One main benefit of an open system is you can have a small leak and not cripple the entire system.

I've done a lot of tinkering on Jeeps etc, but no way I am going to attempt to replace the struts and tie rod ends on that thing. The mom and pop shop gave me a quote of $1700. Still better, but modern suspension components are expensive.

That is your decision (that makes a lot of sense btw). With Rivian - it is their decision, you are locked into their SC. No options. I hope in the future, other shops will be able to do the work. But for now, they are not selling parts. BTW, not sure if it is legal in all states (to not sell parts)

I thought you could buy parts from a SC? several have purchased spare tie rod ends and random other components. You might have to jump through a few hoops, but I think they allow it.

You can purchase some simple parts from the SC, but other parts are "restricted". But, even if you are able to get certain parts, it seems like you'll need the Rivian diagnostic device and software to purge hydraulic lines, etc.. in many cases, and that is not available to the consumer.

Agree 100% . A socal dealer was asking $1500 for rear wheel bearing replacement on an Accord. There is a reason we call them stealerships. However part cost was ~$250 and a local mechanic fixed with aftermarket parts for around $500. Not my car, I was visiting a friend.

This is impossible with Rivian because Rivian won't sell you parts and there are no aftermarket parts. With possible exception of Tesla, I am not aware of any car company that straight up refuses to sell parts.

I think the general average for an air suspension is five years but $4k 😮
A good air suspension should last a lot longer. My last vehicle (2015 Ram 1500 limited) had zero issues with the air suspension at 90k miles and 9.5 years old.

70k had to pay 2500 for new front lower control arms

78k had to pay 1900 for one rear left damper (fluid leak too). Now I'm concerned about the right damper going bad.

81k they are putting in a new front drive unit and replacing the Gen 1 subframe with a Gen 2 subframe. Trying to solve this old creaking truck noise I have had them try to troubleshoot the past three visits. This time, drive unit and subframe are being covered.

One note, all parts you pay for are getting a 2 year unlimited mile warrenty.
I have creaking noise issue coming fron both front and rear. Subframe is covered under warranty after 60k?

My guess would be 60k. That is not drivetrain technically.
