My Muddy Forest Green two-tone R1T From yesterday...

It poured on Sunday night/into Monday morning, and this was from Tuesday afternoon, so basically a day's worth of mud accumulation here in VT. Mud Season is hitting early this year!

Not a great shot but nice to see them hanging out together. Would have been nicer if my son didn't open his door into the other one, but no damage done.

hello fellow Vermonter. Love the color choices. The forest green with bronze/gold wheels was a close second for me. It looks great, dirt and all! I am curious to hear your opinion on those mud flaps though. I'm on the fence about getting a set and this picture ain't selling them but then again peak mud season may not be a fair time to judge, so would you buy them again?

Hello fellow Vermonter ?? Thanks! I love the FG/bronze combo, though it is a pretty dark color, and sometimes I wish I had one that better hides all the salt we are pummeled with throughout the winter here.

Yeah, the mudflaps dont really do as much as I'd hoped. They do block the air curtain opening (for better or worse, depending on how much aero/efficiency benefit those holes really impart), which was getting pretty mud-caked prior to me having the flaps.

TWraps used to sell an XL set, which might have been more effective, and you may be able to request those instead. I haven't run without them for a long time, and installed them the same time I installed my Megawatt sliders, which honestly present more of a mud/ice catching challenge in their own right, so I'm not really sure if the flaps would be more effective without the sliders, or what it would be like to have the sliders without the flaps (which I'm assuming would be at least a bit worse—as in even more crud retained on top of the step). I actually wish that the step top was removable (bolted on), since I think I would run just bars with no top section, at least in the winter if I could.

Do you have rock rails or running boards? It's a tricky thing, since they provide such better access to the vehicle (especially for my toddler and 5'2" partner) as well as protection for one of the more vulnerable parts of the truck (something that has saved me a few times off-road), but they also hold a lot of slush and/or mud (which turns to ice if it's freezing). I almost think rock rails with just the tube stock, no sheet metal top would be just as effective as steps without having the crap-collecting properties.

I don't have sliders/running boards. I do most my off roading on two wheels so was thinking of just adding mud flaps for the dirt and gravel roads. I bet the mud flaps are keeping a good bit of mud off your step surface. Rally Armor's option looks like it would cover more but it doesn't block the areo vent which defeats the purpose of getting mud flaps if you ask me.

Thanks for the input. I almost ordered a pair last week but I think I'll hold off for now and just pressure wash more.

The “??” In the first sentence was supposed to be a waving emoji 🤦🏻‍♂️ I guess it isn’t available on the forums yet? Idk.

I saw the rally armor ones, which I considered since I’ve had good luck with their mudflats in the past, but the aero holes were a big source of splatter all over the doors, so I opted to go with the TWRAPS ones (it don’t hurt that they were about 1/4 of the insane Rally Armor price too, which seems to be carrying a Rivian tax).

I did crack one chipping built up frozen crap off that area this winter (the combo of the rock rails and these flaps plus VT winter created quite a slush/ice retention situation on several occasions this winter).

Honestly, I think the stock situation fares better in terms of actual mud/slush/ice buildup, even if it lets some stuff through to the doors, so your call to just wash more often is probably the right one. If I didn’t “need” the step, knowing what I know now, I might reconsider having them. I have dropped onto a few rocks with them though, so I’m glad they’re there, but I probably wouldn’t have gone where I was going in the first place if I didn’t have the protection, and I’ve only used the “rock rails” aspect of them for their intended purpose a few times.
