Is the innovation here that the motor, "power electronics" and transmission is all in one unit? Wouldn't that make it more expensive if just one of those things fails? Instead of replacing 1 you have to replace all of it?

It's easier to just have the dealer swap the whole unit out than to risk breaking the sensitive electronics by opening the case up. I'm sure non-warranty stuff down the line you won't have to do that, but it makes sense to make that kinda work easy on your transition vehicles.

This will be great for future truck owners who might want to service their own vehicle.

Or upgrade it honestly. One unit to drop, peel apart, get a DC jolt and die. None of this piddly multi component jazz. Who has time for that?
