Radar Detector hard wire, who has done it?

Hey all,

First I wanted to just thank you all for your knowledge and posting, I was able to knock this project out in no time.

Use the smallest pins, by the way here are 2 images for scale, they're pretty dang small.

I also discovered that if you set the Rivian Torch up on the floor pointed up, it perfectly spotlights the area of work, without blasting yourself in the face with a light.

Anyway, I hope this helps future modders.

Unfortunately I have it all tucked away and I don't want to open it back up. Look in this thread for previous posts, the other users have done a good job at walking you through it.

The default V1 app is just ok. If you have an Android phone download JBV1 it will give you full GPS functionality, auto learn, auto mute red light camera warninga, crowd sourced alerts and MUCH more. The app is so powerful that many V1 users in RD community run a dedicated Andeoid phone in the car just for JBV1

Looks fantastic! This will be my first detector. What all do I need from Valentine for this, besides the main v1 gen2 unit?

My friends that use detectors all swear by Valentine... is that what you all recommend, or are there others I should consider?

It was for a 2019 X3 using the Escort Redline 360C detector. Part numbers below copied from the order.

All you guys who have successfully "adapted" non-Rivian Blendmount, please write Blendmount and let them know which one you bought and works. They've flat-out said they don't have anything that could work and doesn't have Rivian listed on their site.

I tried quite a few solutions and oddly the simplest is my fav.

Uniden R8. Hardwired with a mirror tap kit. Mounted with a generic modified eBay bracket. Affixed to rearview with 3M adhesive.

Bend leaves just enough room to access top mounted buttons.

Surprised I liked this one the most. Simple, tight, and tidy.

I opted to use the 'Blendmount' RD mounting bracket. However the ring clamp for the mirror arm is too think and severely limited the movement of the rearview mirror.

So I removed the ring clamp portion and drilled/tapped the center piece for a 10-24 screw. I then drilled a clearance hole in the cover and mounted the Blendmount to it.
A feature of this method is that the RD swivels towards the driver which was not possible when mounted to the mirror arm.

The exposed portion of the Rivian mirror arm is not enough for the Blendmount to work as designed. It would have to be really thin which would make it prone to breakage.

I bought a detector mount that uses GoPro style connectors, intended to use it on a motorcycle, but never did. So I used it on the Rivian along with another GoPro connector. It looks great and is super solid. I have a video of it and just need to edit and finish it, probably tomorrow. I used a typical mirror power kit and looped it around the mount to keep it tidy and in place.

Except for the reality that @DiggingHoles shared his experience with Blendmount's BMG-3032 mount working on Rivian's short tapered mirror shaft, which I was able to repeat without any modification. It took some salty language as I struggled with gravity and tiny socket cap screws and washers, but it fit and works. YMMV, it isn't blessed by Blendmount and they disavow any responsibility of it working, but it works for me.
