I believe the R3 dimensions listed here are very accurate based on tire size and photos captured from the event. You can see the floor has grooves in it that are likely tiled 4x8 sheets of plywood. If you scale that to the wheelbase you'd have about 109" wheelbase and a fuzz over 161" for total length based on silhouettes taken by Rivian from further away which would negate some of that lens distortion. This corroborates the wheel evidence which is 30.18". Not sure how much lens distortion there is in this image, but the wheelbase should be 109-111 based on what I estimate. 109 seems most likely though. This would give us a GTI sized vehicle that is 8" shorter and about the same height. BUT more leg room and more cargo with the longer wheelbase, frunk and sub trunk. VERY exciting!

You know you have R3 enthusiasts when the measure the length and height off the frickin' FLOORBOARDS!!

But honestly guys nice job. Dunno how long it took y'all, but that would take me at least half an hour

The following is from an article on Green Car Reports:

”Jeff Hammoud, Rivian’s head designer, confirmed to Green Car Reports that the R3 family is 170.3 inches long and rides on a 110.2-inch wheelbase—so it’s about 15 inches shorter than the R2, with a wheelbase about five inches shorter. “

Longer than I hoped but definitely still a small hatch. I’ll take it.
Where did you find that information?

Interesting... I've read another interview where Jeff Hammound compared it to the Audi Q3 in size.
https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a60160869/rivian-r3-eighties-design/

I am curious if Green Car reports obtained actual specs from Jeff Hammound or if they inferred it was about an older Audi Q3 from Road & Track. The reason I ask, is that saying something is about the size of something else doesn't really clarify actual dimensions. Is it the same wheelbase, same length, same height, same volume, same track size, same passenger space?

I think we'll have to wait until Rivian posts some real specs unless we can get Green Car Reports to clarify.

Checked out the R3X in Seattle yesterday and using my iPhone 15 Pro Max ended up at 168 inches long, not including the little bars on the front of the bumper. 70-71” wide not including mirrors (measured from plastic wheel fender to plastic wheel fender).

I think I was talking with @WilliamG while he was doing that, and ... my wife's Kona EV is ~166, and this looks at least as long. 161 isn't plausible having seen it in person. The wheels+Tires are HUGE

I saw the R3x in person at the Seattle event - I was interested in the width (narrow garage). The R3X, measured by the iPhone Measure tool was 74" wide... Pacing it off I got something > 70" - so I'd trust it.

The other thing, those wheels and bumpers stick out an inch or two on each side - so the R3 will be 2-4 inches narrower (as presented in this 1 of 1 version)

I agree the vehicle seemed very short - not in a bad way. Really reminded me of a late 80s Plymouth Horizon hatchback...

Also the rep said 21" tires...

If the R3 is 168" It would looks like this next to the R2...

I’ve driven and loved a 6spd mk7 GTI for 6 years, that has been lifted on Alltrack suspension for the last 3.

Like everyone else I was shocked with the R3X reveal, and immediately intrigued by the styling and “rally-inspired” performance. But I was initially concerned it might be bigger than it appeared in the pictures, so I tempered my enthusiasm and did some sleuthing to find dimensions. Feel free to check my math.

Tire size on the show car is 255/55R19 (I zoomed in to mkbhd’s video). That’s a 30in diameter. RJ also said the wheelbase of R3 is 5in shorter than that of R2, which works out to 110.5in. Using the high res side view photo Rivian posted of R3X, I measured the width of the tire in pixels and from there could calculate the height and length. (I confirmed this by checking the wheelbase and was only 1.5% off the 110.5in value).

R3X length: ~161.4in

R3X height: ~59.5in.

Needless to say my enthusiasm is no longer tempered when I found out the R3X is only 1.7in taller and somehow 6.6in SHORTER than a mk7 GTI (the tiny overhangs I guess??).

Pretty sure this is my next car.

I saw this exact one at the Rivian Space today in Pasadena. I drove up to look at a R2, which also was there. It’s small, exceptionally handsome.

I saw the R2 and R3/XXX during its Denver stop and I have to say I expected it to look smaller than it appeared, knowing the dimensions. The R2 is a very nice nice that would work for most families as well as single people who don’t want or need a bigger vehicle.

Which dimensions are you referring to - 161" or 170"? Pretty sure the thread title is now incorrect

I thought it was 170” when I saw it and still thought it looked “bigger” than I expected for a “small” vehicle. But that is obviously subjective - each person has their own expectations??‍♂

I think it's wide for how short of a vehicle it is. Should mean better stability though.

Agree 100%. That RTT is pretty large for a 2 person and it didn’t look totally ridiculous IMO.

I had a chance to see the R3X in person last Friday in the Boston. Using the measure tool on my iPhone I tried to grab as much dimensions as possible. Since this coming off of an iPhone take it with a grain of salt but it does give a general idea on the actual size. The car is short (Golf size or smaller). However it is very wide for the size of the car which makes it seem even wider in person.

Will post more pictures and dimensions later today. I estimate the length as 165", 60" tall and track width of 64" (74" max with with tires). FYI on track width, my understanding is that the R3X sits 2" wider than the R3s. This is done by adding the plastic cladding on the side.

BTW I estimate the ground clearance around 7.5-8".
