I can see, hmm, looks like 10 people in line in front of me, so I guess I'm number 11. Geez, this line is NOT moving ...

Do you currently own an R1? If "yes" you are higher. If "no" you are lower.
Actually I think the list is more like this

June 30, 2026: 3 Rivian c-suite executives (on the last day that would qualify as meeting the advertised "first half of 2026" deadline)

July-August: there will be 0 deliveries.

September 2026 - December 2026 : Celebrities/Social Media influencers, Regular Rivian employees, and friends of Rivian executives

December 2026: A handful of "real" customers, mostly selected from the pool of people who purchased multiple R1 vehicles

January 2027 - September 2027: People who were in the wait-list in a semi-random order that only loosely correlates with order date. Half of the features and options will have be cut in the 2027 model year vehicles and Rivian will try to raise the price by $20,000

October 2027, although not everyone who pre-ordered has received their car, they will have in-stock vehicles available for anyone to purchase available for immediate delivery.

January 2028: Gen 2 will be released and contain most of the stuff that Rivian cut from the 2027's.

I would add that people who spec out the most expensive configurations will get their orders first. That typically will translate into the highest margin ones for Rivian.

Sortof, I predict that everything but the most expensive trim will be discontinued before ever being produced.

Rivian will say it was because nearly everyone wanted the top trim, but really it will be because they were loosing money even on the most profitable (or rather least unprofitable) trim.

They might re-introduce the lower trims down the road but only after they have raised the price.

Dang you guys are cynical. :) Sure they did that literally one time price increase (honoring the lower price for all reservation holders) because - hey - the world changed. But yes, they will prioritize "launch edition" flagships. And yes, they will soft-launch to employees willing to be test mules at a reduced price. But I suspect that the order backlog and production planning will be much better run (fwiw I had reserved a "Christmas" edition red exterior with green interior - which they they cancelled and cost me about 5 months of wait time).
