I hear the fact that Tesla is far superior in software than Rivian by a lot of people. Enough that I could say it’s probably a general consensus. I have to say I don’t really understand it as an outsider. My Rivian was my first EV and when I test drove a Tesla I felt their software wasn’t as good as Rivian’s.

I know that’s a minority opinion but Tesla lacks some pretty basic things like an overhead camera view which to me is a must have. I was at the gym yesterday and a construction truck was parked illegally behind me when I left leaving me very little room to maneuver to get out. If I didn’t have that view it would have been much more difficult to navigate.

I also struggle with the Tesla design language and interior. Their software seems complicated compared to my Rivian and it was snappy but I struggled to find basic features. I do agree that they are far better than anyone else besides Rivian though because the tech of other manufacturers is abysmal. Charging curve could be better in the Rivian though, I will grant you that much.
Fair enough and I think your experience and take is shared by many others as well. From those coming straight from ICE, the Rivian UI is a huge leap.

I can see your point in favoring Rivians UI overall as it's very user friendly. A lot of it could come down to simply a design preference, but from a functional perspective Rivian is moving at a pretty rapid pace.

The recent update for having the ability to view live cam from the phone is huge. There are many things like this where it should simply exist already with Rivian like it does for Tesla.

There are a lot of things that make people scratch their head that Tesla does as well. For example, not having a rear cam on the rear view mirror, but instead on the screen, among other things.

I went today (may have missed you by an hour). I am blown away by the 3. The 2 is awesome but if you have 1 SUV it is kind of like, why get a 2. I DO THINK that the fold flat of the second row could get to 6 feet for two people's heads but I don't know, even without the first row fold flat. These are pretty awesome-looking vehicles.
I drove 1 1/2 hours and got there around 11:30 am. Yes, the designers did a wonderful job. I sat in the R1 for reference and also was blown by the comfortable fit and finish. The 2 and 3 will just be smaller. I have a reservation on the 2 but I really like 3.
