my two cents...it had the cool factor for sure...but....as others correctly state the hitch receiver is tried and true and has tons of accessories already available. Why add more cost to the vehicle?

This would be a shame if it doesn't come back.

Rivian has removed all references to the rear accessory ports on the R2. RIP OEM bike rack! There's still 1 photo in the gallery with it, but everything else is gone. Link: https://rivian.com/r2

The Porsche Taycan "cross tourismo" (wagon) has a super custom bike rack with dual-point mounting. It's fantastically stable, but oh so expensive at $2,500 to $3,000.
I don't think it makes sense for the R2, a mid-range vehicle, to have accesories that are so prorietary, so I think that removing these special ports was the right move.

Rivian R1T R1S R2 / R3 rear accessory port may have been removed 1743449147378-wf

I spent a small fortune on my bike rack for my R1T and didn't even have Porsche on it. ;)

I bought the Quikrstuff rack. By the time I got the rack, extra bike attachment, ramp, cable, lock, etc. I am at about $2k. That Porsche rack looks pretty nice.

I am still sticking with if you decontent it too much, other options begin to look a lot more appealing. I am not married to the Rivian brand, just like I wasn't married to Tesla.

The R2 looks more like a commodity. At least the R3X has a unique design and doesn't look like much else in the marketplace.

"Rug Pull Rivian"...official nickname for this company. Stop showing us stuff you have no intention of bringing to market...fold flat seats, accessory ports. Still butthurt about original camp kitchen in R1 as well. Ok, rant over.
The original camp kitchen went away because they realized they could/would sell *WAY* more R1S SUVs that it wouldn't work with. Even if they sold a camp kitchen to every R1T owner, they'd still probably sell fewer than they think they can sell of the not-R1T-specific kitchen.

Cool story.

The R2 (and R3) are supposed to be the more widely available models.

Not necessarily marketed to the "I can afford an R1T/R1S" market.

You're going to turn a LOT of average people (those that currently are buying Hondas, Subarus, and Volkswagens) off if they see >$300 for a bike rack.

I'd also like to point out that Rivian isn't making decisions in a vacuum.
There could be innumerable reasons they're pulling the accessory ports.

Not only due to costs, or molds, or to spite everyone here who thinks they're pulling a bait-and-switch.

It could have to do with crash safety testing, DOT regulations, EU compliance (Remember, they're planning to sell these overseas!), or any number of things.

It's calculated. Not worth the risk. If you want something that doesn't have what you're looking for...you get something else. That's basic economics.

That's too bad.

My intended use case for the R2 is melting away: First the fold flat seats, now the bike rack - I was hoping that you could carry bikes AND tow a trailer and sleep in the car. But that probably would have been too adventurous - wait a minute, wasn't the R2 advertised as an adventure car? A VW bus appears to become a more and more attractive alternative.

I too want an R2, and I too want a bike rack.
I'm not panicking yet - we're talking about a feature that is literally two load bearing plugs and a locking mechanism -even if it needs to draw power from a traditional trailer plug instead of an integrated port inside the mounting lugs, it wouldn't add too much to the build.
I will be a little salty if it turns out its gone but I think rivian would be foolish to remove something so cheap that could provide so much functionality.
