Just seems like a small number vs other packs out now.
Plus...
They should have gone 777 (Jackpot)
What other packs are using the 4695 cells? And number of batteries doesn't mean anything at all. I would be happy with 1 battery cell if it was 100 kWh cell.

Interesting uptick in R2 news with this battery pack photo and the interview about colors and interior design choices. Certainly seems like they are starting to pull everything together as the factory extension becomes weather proof and inside work can start.

Hopefully this has better cooling than the R1 battery packs.

I'm only slightly familiar with the 4680 cells (Tesla) obviously, I understood the 4695 was 15% more capacity but expected the boxy design of the R2 to require a similar qty of cells......It's cool none the less

If we use the Chinese 4695 cells in post# 4 as an example, each cell puts out 119Wh X 728 cells = 91,392kWh total pack capacity.

One thing a little concerning regarding the Chinese 4695 cells...

Nice find. That's a lot of cycles. They seem to be pretty robust and if it's listed on the spec sheet the odds will be that they will probably be better than that.

I think the potential for a decent m/kWh is there, maybe 3.1-3.3 miles/kWh real world if they can get it around 5k lbs. For a 90 kWh battery if EPA is 3.5 that is 315 range at 100%.

I base my assumption on the Jeep GC Overland I had, it came in at 4,980 pounds with a V6 and I could get 22-24 mpg on freeway trips. Looking at that body style it was more aerodynamic than it looked at .37.

Rivian claims .30 on the R1S so I assume the R2 will be similar.

That might be a thermal control issue.

That is quite small for battery life and does make me hesitate when commuting for me will be 90 miles a day to work and I had planned to keep the car for a good 8+ years. I only have one car so it will be my only transportation.

". . . The pack is a structural part of the body and the top of the pack is also a portion of the floor of the vehicle. . ."

Does this design feature mean that the battery pack can never be removed/replaced? Or is simply that there are various attachment points where parts of the frame or body are bolted to the outer wall of the battery case?

The statement itself is no different from the R1, and we know the R1 batteries have been replaced by Rivian under warranty. It’s reasonable to assume that the R2 is the same. If not, a warranty claim on a battery means trashing the vehicle.

Just because a component is structural is no indication as to whether it can be replaced. For example, the subframe is structural and can be replaced.

Don't forget they typically have about a 5% buffer on the battery which puts it down closer to 86-87kwh usable battery. I think you're right though, they are targeting a 3.5mi/kwh range for EPA testing which means we'll see real world a little lower. At 3.5mi/kwh and 86-87 usable we should see the listed range around 304.

If your estimation is correct, that is 30,464 Wh per module. If they can fit six modules into the R1T, we finally have the 180 kWh they promised! LOL.

Five modules = 152 kWh, which is better than what the R1 has now. I wonder if they will be used in the Gen3 R1? I really hope they put 1000V charging capability in the Gen3 R1.

I believe it’s referred to as a skateboard platform?
