Hey all, went to the Chicago Auto Show yesterday just to check out the R2. Of course it was behind the golden cords, but one of the "supervisors" was nice enough to take some interior measurements for me. I have dogs (lots of them) and wanted to make sure my crate/containment setup would work in the smaller R2. Thought I'd share them as I haven't seen any internal measurements. Obviously these are rough because the guy wasn't willing to crawl into the vehicle, but they give you a rough idea of cargo room. Bear in mind the seats weren't moved at all and of course all subject to change as this was a prototype.

Cargo area:
  • Width: 44" wide measured from ledge to ledge so there is a bit more room beneath those ledges
  • Depth: 40" deep

Back Seat
  • Width: 51.5" Door handle to door handle
  • Legroom: 31" Back of front seat to front of back seat (passenger side)

That is awesome information. Now time to measure my R1S for comparison sake.

Very nice. Can you clarify what the "ledge" is?

So it'll be about 75" from the back of the driver seat to the tailgate. Depending on the width of the wheel arches and back glass, it could be possible to transport a full plywood sheet with the back glass rolled down and back seats down. That would be pretty great!

75" would also be great for in-car camping!

Doug Demuro's video mentioned that Rivian reps are absolutely sure that a 95th percentile height male could lay flat inside with the back seats down. That would be ~73" (source), or 6' and change.

Hmm...31" of rear leg room is a bit concerning. But I'm not sure this is how it's measured as a standard spec. If it is, that's surprisingly small considering the Tesla MY is listed at 40".

It has been a while since I went to the Normal R2/R3 presentation, but I THOUGHT the guy told us the back seat room was the same as the R1S. Hopefully true.

RJ said that the backseat has more legroom than the R1S

If you see Csharp’s image below the “ledge” is off the windows over the wheel well. The back window was open but the tailgate wasn’t so the best measurement he could get was from ledge to ledge. Might be a bit narrower when taking into account wheel wells.

Is that really 95th percentile? In the US and not Vietnam?

I edited the image to show the correct location. Thank you.

I don't think it will be wide enough for a 48" plywood sheet.
