At the Rivian Space in Pasadena (where the R2 / R3X is currently being shown) one of the Vice Presidents that was there confirmed that in the production R2 they are moving the charge port to the drivers rear! Great news for usability with the current Tesla superchargers

Are you writing about the R2, @TemporarilyOutofStock, or are you writing about a future iteration of the R1?

Whatever vehicle this refers to, a driver's side rear location will be slightly better for us, because it will allow us to back into the charging spaces at our home -- thus getting out slightly quicker in the morning and in emergencies.

Best wishes!

Driver rear is an excellent location for Tesla supercharger compatibility however its not a good location for folks that tow.

The long term solution lies with the location and orientation of the charging equipment. There are many vehicles out there with different charging port locations.

It would be nice to see an optional 2nd charging port for those who like to tow. The front charging ports are ideal for towing since you don't have to unhook the trailer to get a charge. Pull through sites solve this issue but those are far and few between. Very few operators actually have pull through. Most are pull up which means you need a front charge port if your towing.

I back my R1 in now and have the EVSE on the wall in the garage right next to it.

Agreed that it's great for Supercharger compatibility. The few times I've used it, I always have to use the two end units so I don't block any Teslas. Not an issue when the chargers are mostly empty but will increasingly become an issue when there are more cars that need charging.

However, we don't back in to the garage, so that we can open the liftgate to pull stuff out. So mixed on the benefits at home vs. charging on the road.

At least it's not right rear, which would be the worst of both worlds...

If true, it’s a good move. It seemed like a missed opportunity when Rivian put the charger on the passenger rear. For me, I back into my single bay garage. The charger location would have put the port next to the garage wall, making it more challenging to charge. If I pulled into the garage, I would have put my drivers door up next to the wall. Not an optimal scenario. Just putting the port on the drivers side gives me more options. Putting it drivers side/rear gives me more options and less challenges when charging a V3 Superchargers.

I need someone to put together a list of what was said at this event because apparently this same VP said the front seats folding completely flat wasn’t making it to production.
He said that about R3X which was never a thing anyway I’m pretty sure. He didn’t say that about R2 when I was there. 🤔

I have an R2 order and live in SoCal. Is it worth the 60 mile drive to Pasadena to see the R2?

Yes. I’m in Florida and trying to figure out if it’s worth a multi-hour flight to go see it…Probably not :/

Interesting. I definitely remember it being a thing on R2. Here’s the quote from the other individual there.
