R2 design is fixed and they are already working on manufacturing planning. That was reassuring to hear.
Agreed. Again, this could all fall apart horribly, but so far I'm impressed with the level of discipline that I'm seeing from Rivian regarding the R2. (I know I probably should expect discipline from a major auto manufacturer, but I come from the Tesla world where discipline seems to be an increasingly rare commodity).

They seem to recognize that R2 / R3 are key to the company's survival and growth and, from the outside at least, look like they're laser focused on making them reality without getting distracted by every blinky / shiny thing that comes along. These roadshows are smart ways to both drum up interest and keep interest high for those of us who are already reservation holders. It will be interesting to see what they do to keep the momentum going over the next 18-24 months.

It's also heartening to know that what they're showing is (again, fingers crossed) what we're going to get. I think the R2 is a beautiful vehicle and truly do hope that not a line changes between this and what will eventually be in my garage.

both of these need to be in customer’s driveways ASAP and not in public displays If Rivian is to survive.
Pretty sure they are trying to make that a reality as quick as possible.
You know it’s not as simple as flipping a switch to turn start pushing these down the assembly line, right?!

R1T, Glacier White, Black Mountain, Black AT 20s,
I was there on Thursday. The R2 and R3X were cool, but I really enjoyed talking for an hour total with a senior interior designer of R1/2 and a software interface engineer. Very interesting discussions.

As someone mentioned above, these display cars (at least the R2) are locked-in designs. I mentioned a relatively minor feature request from personal experience - adding a pop-out cupholder tray to the back as well as the front of the center console, because there are no rear cupholders when all three second row seats are occupied (by a child and two belted dogs, in my recent example). Tesla Model X has this. He liked it and said he would put it on the consideration list for a future revision because the R2 design is fixed and they are already working on manufacturing planning. That was reassuring to hear.

I also gave him some feedback on the useless phone charging pad in the R1, showing him the website for what I replaced it with, the Adventure High Tech StowNCharge that I’m very happy with despite the high price. He was very interested and took down the name.

I should have given some feedback on the R1S third row access, which is to me a weak point. The button press to access works fine, but it’s an overly involved process to wrestle the seat back into position.

An interesting comment from the SW guy was that the R3X will be priced higher than the R2, which I guess makes sense. I also learned that he was part of the proof of concept project to rewire an Audi e-tron with Rivian ECUs, wiring and control software that led to the VW-Rivian joint venture. The team was hidden in the back of an unmarked warehouse with two cars, one they worked on and the other they kept as-is for reference. Cool stuff. https://www.reuters.com/business/au...w-vws-5-bln-rivian-bet-transpired-2024-06-27/

The main takeaway I got from them was that they’re really excited about what they’re doing at Rivian, and they are eager for customer feedback. They said they are monitoring this and other forums to collect feedback.

R3X will be the top of the line R3, so no doubt it woood be priced higher than a base R2. Are you saying that, or that R3 generally will be priced higher than R2.

I think he meant the base or standard config of the R2.

Tell that to Chinese car makers. New models every other month.

Chinese companies openly steal intellectual property and are for all intents and purposes an extension of the Chinese government. It isn't exactly apples to apples.

Boston is a great town! Would've been a great excuse for a trip just to have gotten to see the R2 and 3 in person.

I'm waiting and hoping that they will make a tour stop in Arizona sooner than later! Hint hint.
