I drove my R1T a couple of hundred miles with my tailgate down and the bolt that holds the tailgate support cable in place fell out along the way.

Believe it or not, Rivian wont sell me one and I have no idea where to find a replacement. I live 5 hours from the closest service center and they dont have any mobile service appointments coming to my area for the foreseeable future.

Can anyone tell me what to call this bolt and/or where I can find one?

Rivian won't sell you a bolt? Wow!!

Anyway, remove the existing one from the other side, bring it to you closest hardware store and match it up with a good quality metric equivalent. You may need to put a lock nut up against the tailgate side to keep the cable eye from binding and to lock the bolt in to prevent this one from coming loose too.

It's pretty stupid that Rivian won't sell you something as simple as this bolt. With service centers backed up they don't need to put in bolts for people who can do it themselves.

100% agree! It makes no sense and further illustrates how broken their service system is.

It's time for Rivian to awaken and move on. This refusal to sell a simple bolt is pretty stupid on their part. They should be doing everything possible to keep simple repairs and adjustments out of the service centers.

I think the junkyard approach sounds the most promising. If they'll pull it for you and ship it to you then you're done, and the expense may outweigh the hassle of going through a service center for this.

Good luck!

That's great info. Thanks again for the work on this.
If I'm understanding Riviot's nice sketches, then you just need a regular M8 bolt of the correct length, and an 8mm long spacer with an ID of 8mm and an OD of 12.5mm (close to these diameters might work fine).

Thanks for this 'reminder' for us reading this to put Loctite on these threads! I'd recommend using the blue for good but not permanent locking.

It’s a shoulder bolt might try McMaster Carr’s website they sell many unique fasteners.

I slid under my truck a few weeks ago to check the bolts on the bottom shield and the hub bolts. Thanks for adding another item to my list of checks, lol. ?
