Driver skill is key and need to adjust speed depending on road conditions.

FDD, ditto on Nokians!! Hakkapeliitta 10s on my wife’s R1S non-performance. The vehicle-tire combo has zero regard for the notion of “slippery”.So glad I got Nokian‘s on my R1T TriMax. Have already successfully navigated a snowy Berthoud pass with them. Next up is Rabbit Ears this Thursday!
Mine ain’t. Snowy Colorado mountain passes have been completely subdued by the vehicle. They are, but they're absolutely terrible on dusted icy roads. This video is how I felt in Idaho when I thought we were gonna eat the barrier going under 15.
My truck sees 95% pavement, 4% gravel/off-road, and 1% icy/snowy. Having the wrong tires for 99% won't kill you or others, just make things less convenient. That 1% can do some real damage.
Well if one completely spins out on Donner Pass, the barrier is not the only thing that’s going to be eaten!! Your passenger and just a touch of tarragon??They are, but they're absolutely terrible on dusted icy roads. Its a Jeep thing, you wouldnt understand!I wonder what kind of tires this guy had on. This is right up the road from me and saw this on my way home Friday when we got snow.![]()
we purchased new rivian 22” wheels (private party) and x-ice tires (Costco) and tpms’ (Amazon) for a bit more than $3kWhat's the best deal for a dedicated snow wheelset? Evsportline wheelset is basically $4600 with tax and shipping.
Based on long range forecast, probably won't be needed this month unfortunately. Hopefully February will have more snow.We did similar, but Used (nearly new) 22" and the Nokian Hakkas snow tires and now going to test that later this month going to Tahoe for first trip of the season. FWIW, we have ALWAYS had two sets of tires, for the winter trips to ski, and the rest of the time (prior ICE vehicles, X5, Escalade, etc.). We came from the Chicago area about 16 years ago. We know snow......
I’ve lived right below Tahoe and had a season ski pass for the last 25 years. So, I’ve spent countless days driving through the Sierras in all kinds of weather. I’ve never owned a set of dedicated snow tires, always using good a/t’s. And, I’ve never had a serious problem. Last season I purchased some Blizzaks for my T. They are awesome. Ski season last year got off to a pretty late start and I blame that on my snow tire investment. Last month, I decided to double down and get some extra wheels for my snow tires. There goes another $1500. So, guess what. Yup. Where’s the frickin’ snow, again?! So, all you skiers can blame me. But, there is hope. Attached is a photo of the Stagecoach lift at Heavenly on 1/1/24. In the end, the snow did come and the season was okay.Based on long range forecast, probably won't be needed this month unfortunately. Hopefully February will have more snow.
There's a saying in Colorado and elsewhere, "Four wheel drive is not four wheel stop." Certainly needed to have aggressive all season or winter tires in those conditions. Not my video, just saw it.
Snow tires would help
Was this anybody here? Not making fun of, just curious.
