Have a 2023 R1T Dual Max. Purchased in May 2024. Is it worth trading for the better tech? Is the ride any better? ANY input would be helpful. Could get $4500 (plus more according to sales person) and 1.99% (60 months) on R1T Dual Max with Performance upgrade. Discounts would cancel the upgrade cost, interest rate would save me over 6K over 60 months.

Sounds like trading up is cheaper than continuing with your current loan. There were improvements that I wouldn't say would be worth trading up for by themselves, but the autonomy tech is supposed to differentiate itself with the gen 2's. We already get lane changes by just clicking the signal with driver + and are supposed to get hands free similar to bluecruise this year.

That plus cheaper seems like it's worth it to me.

If youā€™re saving money over 60 mths, sure. If you start losing money, or have to pay more I wouldnā€™t consider it. Specially since you have a 2023, which already has many of the hardware from the G2 without the cost cutting.

I compared my R1S 23 to a Trimax Gen 2. Other than the cameras did not find anything compelling enough to want to trade up at this time.

Cameras and better ADAS would be my motivation, but price tag is steep. I will wait a couple years for used ones.

Iā€™d like to see a more detailed analysis of your upgrade costs here. Gen 2 is so much more expensive, Iā€™ve never come across a scenario where upgrading could come even close to a wash with even the most aggressive incentives from Rivian. I suppose you have a fairly high interest loan or lease right now, but even then you could refinance that and probably come out way ahead of what it would cost to get a Gen 2. With the current incentives, it would cost me a little over $30K more to get a Gen 2 w/similar specs to my Quad.

With that said, if money didnā€™t matter than sure the upgrades are nice. I demoā€™d a Gen 2 Dual and the cameras are much better, but despite all the other ā€œimprovementsā€ the actual experience driving it was nearly identical to my Gen 1 (albeit with a crazy loud heat pump and sub standard audio) so upgrading just didnā€™t seem worth it.

Think itā€™s the same for R1T, but the **slight** bump in battery size - along with the other changes was what pushed us over the edge to swap Gen 1 to Gen 2 in the R1S

Yes, I think my Gen 2 R1S is quite better than my Gen 1 R1T. Iā€™d do the upgrade
Iā€™m like you, where I have a Gen 2 R1S and a Gen 1 R1T. I like the Gen 2 so much more over the Gen 1, that Iā€™m ready to dump it off when the time comes. Nothing about the Gen 1, keeps me from doing so. My opinion only.

I beg to differ on the Gen 1 and Gen2, as I have one of each and would gladly dump off my Gen 1 when the time comes. But, to each their own. You do you. I didnā€™t buy these vehicles for more than the enjoyment of them and not looking at cost. Otherwise, I would never have done it. Life is too short!

If you will really save some pennies, yes.

I am waiting for Gen 3+ with hopefully a better ADAS, navigation, efficiency, thermal system and more.

Test drove the Gen 2 R1T DM Max with all terrain tires. Ride was slightly better than mine with all seasons. Less suspension clunk on rough roads. Door ā€˜thunkā€™ is much better on the Gen 1 in my opinion. Rivian should have moved the emergency door release in the Gen 2 as I kept opening the door using it instead of the button. The heat pump is loud. The reason I am thinking about trading is for the tech. I am afraid the Gen 1 SW will not advance much. I assumed the refresh was more to do with manufacturing efficiency rather than an entire computer hardware change. Should have waited 3 months. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Iā€™d say gen 2 is more refined. Some things better tech and MCU. The ride feels more refined a little stiffer. But that being said I like the gen 1 fuse box (I was able to add a 12v socket in front cabin) and ride is softer. If you werenā€™t saving money by upgrading Iā€™d say skip it. But to me if youā€™re saving money do the upgrade.
