Hello! I just posted an item to the unofficial wishlist, figured I should post here for visibility and discussion also:
https://rivian.software/wishlist/allow-r1t-front-seats-to-recline-fully-backwards-for-car-camping/

For many of us, ability to sleep in the cabin can be a prime benefit, for situations such as:
- hot and humid nights, where the climate-controlled cabin really shines
- during especially bad weather eg heavy snow and rain, where sleeping inside means no wet/messy results
- when "stealth camping", or just at a highway rest stop during a long road trip, where a tent would draw unwanted attention
- at a noisy campsite, where the soundproof cabin can save the night's sleep!

What this requires, is fully reclining the front seats. I've found it's very easy to remove the rear seat cushions, giving the front seats room to do this, but the max recline appears to be software limited. I understand the need for caution here - people could easily burn out/break the seat motors. However, as feature that could be toggled on in camp mode, perhaps with a caution statement, I think this could be safely gated. And the benefits would be huge, allowing us to fully utilize the R1T's game-changing potential as an EV adventure vehicle!

Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks, and hello fellow owners!

Please figure out. Have been wondering the same.

Have seen folks setup diagonal Platforms in other small pickups that allow for a flat sleeping platform in a small cab. Would love someone to build similar here.

Don't know anything about these guys, but something like this:

Not sure if this would fit in R1T:

I canā€™t believe Iā€™ve never seen that, as much time as Iā€˜ve spent wandering around REI. Brilliant!

Hey, that's a neat idea! I might just drop by REI and check it out today ;) Thanks!

How would they add range of motion to the seat back hinges by software update?

Well, I've dug around a good bit, looking at the seat back, and they appear to have much more physically available range of motion. So, my guess is that (like much of the truck) the limit is software-based - the motor/sensor tells the seat to stop. If so, that could easily be changed to allow a much better recline angle (when the rear seat cushion is removed).

Have you removed the covers and looked at the hinges?

theres probably at the very least a physical limit switch or mechanical stop. Most power seats will ā€œbottom outā€ on their adjustments.

I haven't gone that far, no. Really I'm just hoping this gets attention from Rivian to get a tech saying possible/impossible, as quickly as possible, so I can plan accordingly. Not planning any big trips until the snow melts (Denver), so I can either spend the time building a custom in-cabin sleep solution, or (if software) wait for a solution :p

They do include specific instructions in the manual for how to leave your power and HVAC on if you want to sleep in the vehicle. So they had it in mind at least somewhat. Whether the seats are physically able to recline far enough is another question.
