So it looks like this one is the only one with a king bed option. Is that correct?

All of these have significant aerodynamic impacts, but this one looks especially bad. There are huge air gaps between the camper and the truck, that have to make this one the worst, or one of the worst from an efficiency perspective.

Anyway, is this really the only king option of those you looked at? It seems great, except for the efficiency issue.
In between queen and king-sized bed. Not quite a King. Still very comfy. ~68ish inches wide.

I have the Hest Dually Custom S75 mattress in there now, fits really well and I sleep like a baby.

I get an efficiency average of 1.75 mi/kwh with 20-inch AT tires. I was working on putting a fairing on it, but I have had some issues with getting the hardware right. It's my project to finish by the fall. Efficiency is not as bad as it looks. I recommend getting a Dual/max pack if you go for a camper. You don't need significant acceleration (I can't floor it anymore), and Dual is arguably better off-road/bad weather performance, plus better range. I'll probably replace my R1T eventually with that.

Adding to original post for a new link/ walkthrough from Expo Mountain West on some of the campers that physically exist for the R1T

Rivian R1T R1S R1T Bed Camper Options: Consolidated List IMG_2626
Sigh - still waiting on a bed topper. No need for a camper with an Airstream, but would love to carry more gear & dogs back there. Some day …
I have the FLATED topper for my R1T. Easy to mount when I need it, easy to store when I don’t. Here’s a shot of the topper while towing our FC28 on a 4500 mi spring trip.

I just installed a Tune M1 on my RAM 2500. Very high quality design and construction and super spacious. Fun to outfit the interior for your own purposes. I didn’t put one on the R1T, as the bed is just too short in my opinion.

That topper looks perfect. Just below the roof of the R1T to reduce aerodynamic drag, and perfect alignment with the bed. Is this the one you are using?
Air-Topper - CAP Compact-Truck- FORD Maverick - FLATED

Have you driven without towing to see what the range loss is with the topper?

I don't have much storage space, so this topper looks like an excellent option for me personally. As long as it doesn't kill range.

Yes, that’s the one. I have used it with and without the trailer, and any effect on efficiency is negligible, perhaps a slight improvement. I did cover the rooftop air deflectors on my R1T with self adhesive vinyl to negate airflow being directed between the cab and topper. Not sure I’d bother again save for very long trips. On our 4500 mile towing trip this spring, I never had to add air.

I just returned from Overland Expo MTN West and saw the Dirtbox Canopy Camper in person. It's definitely beefy and mounted solid. Video link below.

It did bring up some concerns I've had about how these campers are mounted. +250lbs on all 4 mounting hooks on cross bars or down low even on a mid height bed rack seem fine. However I would not trust +250lbs camper on those 4 mounting hooks. If you can imagine how much higher the weight is and the leverage multiplication I think you are asking far too much. Anecdotally there are plenty of examples of canopy style campers on other trucks where movement is an issue.

That being said the Dirtbox solution is robust, but it does not look like it will work with a factory tonneau cover at the moment. Our R1T does not have a factory tonneau cover so this seems like the best solution in my case. Quick note, the person in the video is the actual designer and engineer of Dirtbox products and he agreed about those 4 mounting hooks. I would not trust them long term. I wonder what additional supports the GFC will come with? GFC was #1 on my list until i saw how the Dirtbox was solidly mounted. Aesthetically i prefer the Dirtbox as well.

Hey dude!
Thanks for filming!

I think @Team_GFC is in this thread so hopefully they can speak to that, I do know that they are now tying in to 6 points (two of the roof points) so maybe that helps

That's good to know! That would definitely help and I'm definitely interested in their final solution. The great thing about GFC (for those who care) is they are manufactured in house in the USA. Do you happen to know what the weight of the GFC camper will be? The Tacoma is listed at 270lbs so it may be similar or slightly lighter (wishful thinking).

They recently said 275 +/- 10 lbs
they have a build thread (with several links to unlisted YouTube videos) that show a lot of the progress/ design decisions

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/go-fast-camper-for-r1t-announced.25831/

I personally am pretty locked in between dirtbox and gfc
Gfc seems to have really been putting effort into making the product solid for the Rivian

that being said dirtbox were super helpful /approachable as I’ve asked random questions about the product

Related to these campers, I'm heavily considering your tire swing once my camper is installed.
Have you ever thought about some sort of ladder solution with the trail swing?

To me, sleeping inside the R1S…dry, quiet, and with climate control when needed, beats any aftermarket tent for an R1T.
