R1S windshield is a magnet for rocks

Is it me or does the R1S windshield attract rock chips and cracks?!?
I have gotten 3 in the last 3 months and they spread immediately.
Now I do live in CO mtns with lots of snow but in the last 20 years i have only gotten about 3 chip/cracks in all of my other vehicles.

Many have reported than Rivian windshield is fragile. Better have glass coverage.

Mala suerte' (bad luck). Arizona is the worst I've ever seen....if that makes you feel any better....every vehicle I have has chips...and I just do chip repair now.....

That said, I have to replace the windshield in my 4Runner every other year. And I have to replace the windshield in my F350 every other year. But I have never had to replace the windshield in any of the sedans I've owned.

Likewise, I never once had to replace a windshield in the 25 years I lived and drove on the east coast. It's only after moving out west here that windshields have been an issue.

YMMV. I just don't think this is a "Rivian" issue.

Carry some chip repair kits with you. I had same problem with previous vehicles as well and it is better to repair as quickly as possible.

I’ve had the windshield replaced once and 3 rock chip repairs on the Rivian in the last 6 months. I have a 2005 4Runner with 140k miles and have never done any work on the windshield. I think the glass is weak.

Yes, I think it's the aerodynamics. Iiving in Utah, we've had a prius and a Lexus rx350. The prius has never had one chip but the lexus had several chips. The rivian is even worse. I like the look of my truck but it is very boxy.

Mine is in shop for glass replacement as I type... Had truck a year, repaired 2 chips/cracks myself and after 3rd I gave in and took it in. Mainly due to fact no 3rd parties can do it and inconvenience of the SC (have to keep it overnight, it's an hour away, etc)

If 3rd parties get the calibration software, it will be so much less of a hassle

I'm in AZ and it's just a known fact you will replace windshield every year, it's been true my 5 years here... Wife is probably >2x a year average but she does a lot of highway miles.

Agree as others said, The repair kits help let you decide when you replace.

Agree it seems to pick up more rock hits than my Q7 did. Mine finally cracked all the way from top to bottom so now getting it repaired. $1800 to replace and recalibrate at Rivian San Jose. Definitely get glass coverage from your insurance.

Sometimes they drive close to me. Sometimes I have to pass.

Plus, there are some parts of the country (influenced by big cities like LA) where NOT driving closely is considered to be a mark of rudeness or poor skills....

Not with the Rivian but I've had windshields crack from items kicked up by traffic traveling the opposite direction on the other side of a cement barricade so not necessarily a function of driving habits.

My boyfriend’s R1S got 2 window cracks in one day driving from Las Vegas, the 1st rock out Santa Nella, after we had charged up at a RAN station and the 2nd rock hit in Alameda (Ca) 2 hits it one day, what are the odds? He took R1S to a Rivian. Certified collision center to see if the window will be replaced and calibrated. Hopefully the billing will go straight to Nationwide Insurance. Their windshields I hear are fragile.
