I've heard this one from a few people, and I couldn't disagree more. ICE platforms are noisy and inefficient. My R1 is more fun because I don't have to worry about my gear, my engine's RPM, or the weather outside. I step on the go pedal, and it does as I ask every time I ask it in the exact same way. That repeatability plus one pedal drive make me feel connected to an EV in a way I've never felt with an ICE vehicle.
I disagree. Why I have a forced induction manual transmission 650hp rear drive convertible I guess.

Each has its own strength but the Rivian can't come close in excitement to that wailing supercharger and exhaust with rear drive.

Is my G1 QM LRG faster than my ICE? Yes. Is it more exciting....no.

"boringly efficient and soulless"‽‽? What bizarro world are you living in? "Making a lot of noise and shuddering with gear shifts" does not equal "soul".
To me the Rivian is as exciting as a really good dishwasher. Absolutely excels at the job but it doesn’t connect with me. My TRX was slower but to me was a far more connected and enjoyable driving experience when pushing both truck’s performance limits. Personal preference of course, there’s no denying the dominance of an electric drivetrain when it comes to pure responsiveness and quickness of acceleration.

3.4 seconds is 20th? That by itself is pretty insane. One day (pretty much today) 0-60 will be so fast we need to extend to have some meaningful separation. 0-100? Back to the old school 0-100-0 would be my vote as braking these monsters can be pretty important sometimes.

I've got an Ariel Atom with a supercharger on it. That has the air intake right by your head. I warn people on their first ride that any screaming they hear, if it's not coming from them, it's coming from the air intake. My birthday gift to friends that can drive stick shift vehicles is to let them drive the Atom. This is as raw as it gets since it doesn't have power steering, power brakes, traction control, anti-lock brakes. About the only automation it has is a rev limiter on the engine.

Most of the time though, I do prefer the EVs. One thing is that you can enjoy the acceleration off the line from every stop light and NOT draw the attention of every law enforcement person that is within a 1 or 2 mile radius. You also can avoid annoying the the general public when you're enjoying your vehicle. (see South Park's "The F Word" episode) My uncle teased me one time when everyone in the family heard me accelerating onto the highway over a mile and a half away on the Big Dog Mastiff motorcycle I had before buying the Ariel Atom.

I'd love to ride in one of those. You had a Big Dog, too? Man, you've purchased some fun stuff.

Is the gen2 quad actually quicker than the tri? It’s only got about 8% more tq and while it might have 20% more HP I believe it is all added to the front. I would attribute the better 0-60 almost 100% to the better tires. And droping the 0-60 by .4 might on its own = the .6 in the 1/4

I'd like to see these ranked by braking distance. Insane acceleration combined with poor braking distance spells trouble.

I really like the Rivian. It's my first EV after a long line of cars that burp, fart and grunt. I love them all. Each type of car, be it an EV or ICE, serves a different purpose and invokes different emotions. I honestly can't say I'd take one over the other.

Put a playing car in the wheel spokes, that'll make it feel faster, since obviously noise is what turns your crank.

I can do without unnecessary noise.

Same here. I don't miss the noise or automatic transmission shifting at all. The only thing I miss about ICE is manual transmissions. I'd prefer to shift my own gears or have no gears at all (and not a crappy CVT). Manual ICE and an EV are very similar to me.

Same. Went from four pedals to one-pedal driving. (manual diesel pickup with floor pedal parking brake.)
