I asked for it this week and I'm a 7/21 order and 4 miles from the SC.
I think you can try, but you're probably still far enough away from your delivery date.
Just go ahead and call them and ask for shop access with readiness to pick from existing inventory, they might just do it. I was 10/21 pre order yet got shop access back in mid June and accepted delivery of my S within 10 days.When are you granted access to the shop? I've got a January 22 R1S order, with expected delivery in Jan/Feb 24. I feel like it'd be advantageous for them to give me access? I'd happily take one of those launch editions and get it sooner.
Located in Des Moines, IA, and I'd want to do a factory delivery, so location shouldn't be much of a factor.

I had a similar experience the first time I picked a LE R1S from the shop. I wasn’t immediately given the 8 step process as the VIN wasn’t assigned to my account. After what seemed like 12 days my guide was finally able to get a vin assigned and the 8 step process started. It turned out to be an older VIN compared to what was coming off the line. Once that vehicle arrived at the SC I noticed it had issues. I rejected it and was given shop access again. Ended up finding another LE R1S and that’s the one I have now.You misunderstood.
