So, I'm debating on getting a roof rack.
I spent a bit combing threads on here and comparing.
Anyone see one I'm missing, or just got 2 cents to add?
Overland Ruff Racks definitely looks the coolest IMO, but gets even more expensive once I spec out grab handles and lights. I'm just not sure I can justify the price.

Overland Ruff Rax - Tapers in the rear to follow contour in the roof.
$3,795
Slimline II Roof Rack Kit - Classic look and brand.
$1,879
Prinsu Pro Roof Rack - Forum favorite? Seems like the best features for cost.
$1,580
Prospeed Rack - Anyone install this yet? Touted as the Ultra low profile.
$1450
Mars Expedition Roof Rack -Added 4/14/25. Unique Design. Looks to be longer than some others.$2,499
Platforms that seem to work based on threads in here:
Yakima Platform (E) 84x49 + Factory Bars
$999
Rhino-Rack Platform 84x56 + Factory Bars
$895

Nice recap. I've been thinking about the Prinsu Pro for a while. Have two sets of crossbars sitting around, never used. I originally wanted to permanently attach a RTT to them (3x) and set up a ceiling pulley. I like the roof rack more but would have to forgo being able to install/remove the RTT easily.

I do not believe the RuffRax R1S rack tapers at all, it is just shorter in length compared to for example the Prinsu. **spoiled as I was incorrect The Prinsu ends beyond the shark fin while the RuffRax ends before the shark fin, that extra usable length makes the Prinsu appear to flare where the R1S roof line tapers so extremely the last short section of roof line.

Grab handles and lights are also extra cost adds on other rack systems as well.

Can you give the width dimensions front/center/rear of the RuffRax when possible? I have been looking for those now that I’ve been corrected, honestly curious how that’ll effect awnings.

Also, if you have the width, I wonder if you could just cut down the cross bars on the Prinsu to shrink it in.

I just purchased a Rhino Rack Pioneer 6 Platform and found the rack very well built.

I wanted the slimest profile possible and didn't want to use bulky clamp style mounts.

Since the OEM bars and the Rhino Rack use t-tracks, I thought a t-track to t-track solution would give me the best look and slimmest profile. But such a thing doesn't exist! Maybe it does and I couldn't find it. But it was very difficult to find a solution to go from t-track to t-track.

I ended up using the UpTop 1" Tent Riser kit as it allowed me to stagger the t-track bolts forward and backward for the crossbar and the platform, if that makes sense.

It didn't provide any advantage over a clamp style mount, it was just as bulky, and was definitely more work. Oh well.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do not think you could cut the prissy because the side panels have a 90 degree bend at the top. If the sides were just a flat plate you probably could.

The top/side plates of the Prinsu have a 90degree bend - it will not bend well/easily.

50" at the front
49" at the middle crossbar mount point.
45" at the rear at middle of angled part of shark fin

I have mounted awnings on the side and the rear with no problems.

The Prinsu is 50 1/2” wide for the whole rack from fairing to rear.

I got a Rhino Rack 84" x 49" and used two of the HD adapter kits... however, the plates that come with that kit are sized such that the bolts impact the Rivian roof bars. Also, the large pieces that you screw into are too big for the t-slots int he Rivian bars. So I got some T-slot bolts to go into the Rivian bars and I used SendCutSend to recreate the Rhino Rack HD adapter plates (added 25mm of length). Now it works great. Using SendCutSend to make the powder coated plates was easy as pie.

I have the Prinsu rack on my R1S. I saw the Overland Ruff Rack in person and it is noticeably taller profile than Prinsu. For me the Prinsu rack is the best option for the money. The Pro style is a significant upgrade from their original rack and while the rack doesn’t taper in the back once it’s on you don’t notice it. It is more than half the cost of the ORR rack and even at the same price I would take the Prinsu with its features and strength.
