R1S Payload Stickers

I did a search for this but couldn't find a thread with real life R1S payloads, so I'm posting this in case people are curious. I just took delivery of my R1S and was pleasantly surprised that the payload was at 1632 lbs, since I had seen a bunch of R1Ts with payloads in the 1300-1400 range.

It's an Adventure model, Quad Motor, Large Battery, 20" AT wheels, no underbody shield, no spare.

So do I conclude from this that the under body shielding weighs about 132 pounds?

Adventure, quad motor, large battery, 21” wheel, no underbody shield, no spare has a very slightly higher payload of 1653lbs.

Seeing this sticker now makes sense that you’ll have to go to the SC when the R1S temp spare is available, they’ll have to change this sticker to reflect spare tire PSI.

We got a compact spare kit for our 2012 Kia Soul. It came with everything the Rivian inflatable spare kit has plus a new sticker with instructions to apply it over the (clean & dry) existing sticker. Given Rivian’s service backlog, they should probably do something similar.

If Rivian can’t do the same thing for some reason, then I hope they have a porter, intern, or whatever who can do this for people when they drive up so it doesn’t require dropping off the vehicle, etc. and using tech time.

Rivian is requiring me to have them do the payload sticker replacement for our R1S. It probably depends on your state laws.

We should probably be including production dates with these payload ratings since the build is changing over time (ie, changes to stereo system, dual/single 12V, welded vs cast subframes, etc).

Also, mounted wheels/tires are unsprung weight and don't impact payload (spares carried as cargo would, however).

Regulatory payload is GVWR - weight of the vehicle with no cargo, so the wheels and tires do impact the rated payload and what's shown on the sticker.

Going a little deeper in the vehicle weight ...

"Curb weight is the weight of a vehicle when it is completely unmodified with standard equipment, a full tank of fuel, and no passengers or cargo. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the weight that the vehicle should never exceed in order to be driven safely, and includes everything loaded on, including driver, passengers, and cargo, as well as the weight of the vehicle itself. Payload rating is the amount of weight the vehicle can haul and is calculated by subtracting the vehicle's actual curb weight from its GVWR. GVWR is the maximum weight the vehicle is rated to carry."

These tags are from my R1S which is the Adventure model, Large battery, Quad motors, 20" Dark w/AT tires, Reinforced underbody shield, no spare.

This scale ticket is from a certified truck scale. They did not know about Rivian; thus called it a "Jeep". It was totally empty when it was weighed except for whatever came with it as received.

To summarize the above, my R1S has a Curb Weight of 6,980 lbs.. It has a GVWR of 8,532 lbs.. The "Tire and Loading" tag says it can carry an additional 1,499 lbs.; however, that is incorrect! It can actually carry an additional 1,552 lbs. which is the difference between the GVWR and it's Curb Weight.

I am not sure, but the 53 lb. difference may be the weight of the compact spare which it does not have.

I also learned the adding the Front and Rear GVWR numbers does not add up to the Vehicle GVWR. Apparently, this is quite often the case. Because it is possible to overload one of the axles without overloading the vehicle itself, axle specific GVWRs are also provided.
