R1S Cargo Mat Alternative - Chilewich Mats @ Costco - Matches my California Dune color

While at Costco, I noticed Chilewich Shag outdoor/indoor mats that were on sale for $29 and thought maybe this would work for my cargo area.

The mats come in 4 colors (Tan, Dark Grey, Wave Stripe Blue, Wave Stripe Green). I picked out the Tan to go with the Chilewich Dune color mats in my California Dune. I think they look great in person. I tried one at first and I like how light weight it is allowing me to move as needed. I had lunch in the back the other day with lift gate down and I just slid the mats out over the gate as a place mat.

I bought another one just to test it out for a couple of weeks to see if I'll keep it. The mats are 2' x 3' and I do wish it was wider, but I'm happy it covers the crack between the 3rd row seats... we'll see.

How many of the mats did you have to buy in order to cover the back of your R1S with the third row down? Second row down as well?

Really surprised RIvian doesn't offer all weather mats for this area of the car when you purchase the all weather mats.

One mat covers the third row. I bought one at first, then bought another to cover the cargo area.

Looks like they could be cut to size. You may get some fraying on the ends but I think you could be surgical enough to limit it some.

...missed your question on the second row: I haven't tried it on the second row but the mats aren't wide enough to cover from end to end sideways. So you'd need one mat for the cargo area, one mat for third row, and maybe another 1 1/2 or two for the 2nd row. I'll see if I can size it when I can. The mats are 2' by 3'

Thanks! I'm looking for something for the 2nd row seat backs. Might pick one of these mats up, cut it to size and figure some way to fasten it to the seat back.
If it works I'm going to work on the tailgate too. That flap that folds down when you open the tailgate is tough to protect. It takes a beating if you haul stuff a lot.

$29 for the 1'11"2x3 mat is a great price - they're $89 online at Costco! Costco Online also has a 2'9"x4' Chilewich Mat for $140. Too bad that one wasn't available at your local store.
