If you don't mind indulging my curiosity:
I've had my Gen2 R1S Max. Dual Motor (non performance) for a couple of months now, I chose to save extra the $$$ of the Performance option and put it into the battery/range. I had previously test driven a Gen.1 QM and so was delighted to find that the Gen.2 DM apparently accelerates similarly from low to moderate speeds. What I've found out over time is that this rush of power that's available at lower speeds isn't the same from higher speeds, it does of course accelerate from higher speeds (to even higher speeds) but not with the same gusto as it can from lower speeds. This is of course to be expected to a certain degree but the difference is more that I was expecting.
My question is essentially whether the Performance option makes much of a difference at higher speeds? My understanding is that the extra power is only available in Sport Mode (which I don't have) so I'm asking myself whether if you're driving a DMP let's say on the highway at around 65mph in General Purpose mode and want to get past another vehicle quickly for whatever reason do you actually get into the screen options to change mode to get to the extra power before making the manoeuver?
If that's the only way to the extra power and requires some eyes-off-the-road time to change modes (and ride height and whatever else changes) then I'm happy to have saved the money on the option as I don't see myself choosing Sport before I start driving as I wouldn't want to be in low/hard settings (i have 22" wheels and find even the Soft ride still a bit jumpy).
If however the extra power was available more readily and without changing other settings I would be interested in the upgrade (when available).
I assume most of the underpinnings of the DM's are very similar to the QM's and as far as I know the QM's can get to all of their (higher) power regardless of drive mode so why then would the DM's only get access in Sport Mode (with I assume the harder and lower ride settings)?
Side note: when I saw reviews of some of the Korean EVs and saw the extra power 'button' I thought it was a cop-out that the full power was only available for short periods of time but now I see that as how I'd like the extra power available (instantly and with my eyes on the road).
Thanks for thoughts.
