Q for owners of 22" dark wheels -- any issues with the wheel on the spare getting scratched if it is facing down in the spare wheel well?

Dropped my 21" wheels off at the powdercoat guy, and he was a bit concerned about the spare getting scratched up.

I'm guessing that mostly tire hits the area where the spare fits and that the wheel is unscathed.

Anybody out there with 22" dark wheels have any issues with the wheel on the spare getting scratched if it is facing down in the spare wheel well? I was also thinking I could probably just invert the wheel so that the face of the wheel is facing up to avoid this?

Thank you!

I noticed a slight scuff on my 20ā€, and I put down some styrofoam padding in that spot.

That was my next plan of action- I've got a good amount of dense foam weatherstripping I can place there to avoid contact with the wheel. I don't think it will interfere with opening or closing the spare cover.

I rotated my 22" sport BRIGHT spare in a few weeks ago. There's no scratches and the clear coat looks scuff free. But, I might end up adding some padding next time I rotate.

If the wheel is centered then the actual wheel doesnā€™t contact anything. It is purely sitting on the tire. If you donā€™t remove the center bolt and try to remove the wheel, then you are most likely going to damage the wheel. I pulled the 21ā€ original wheel out and have had no issues with the 22ā€ darks that I have now.

If you are putting stuff in the spare tire wheel well, then yes there is potential for damage.

I doubt that the wheel face would get scratched face down. I bought a set of the 22" dark wheels/tires combo from my SC and had them delivered to my house. As I removed them out of the boxes, I accidentally allowed one wheel to roll and flipped faced down on my driveway. My heart stopped, fearing for the worst, but there were no scratches to the wheel face - it laid down fully on the tire. Lucky my driveway was spotlessly clean with no gravel!
