PSE opened TOU enrollment

I stumbled across the Puget Sound Energy pilot program for Time of Use rates. It was invite-only through October 1 and opened up after that. They have three pilot schedules: 327, 317, and 307. You can opt out any time and return to the regular Residential Schedule 7. 327 has the best "super off-peak" rates but is now full (though they asked to expand it to another 250 customers so look for that if you sign up).
317 and 307 have interesting offerings, and we went with 307 based on our use case (mostly gas home, >75% of power is EV charging). My maths say we'll save at least $30/month with 307, could've been $45 with 327! I really hope they solidify 327 in the future, it's perfect for us and makes sense to level off peak usage.

These off-peak rates are amazing! EV Rate in SF Bay Area (PG&E) is terrible.

Good find! I have been wondering for a while why PSE didn't offer TOU plans, but I guess I just haven't been paying close attention.

I just enrolled us in a 307 too, will be keeping an eye on the 327 openings too. Not sure how the 317 works, is it just lower peak + higher off peak than 307 then something about 20 days a year of peak credits?

Not an option if you have solar (net meeting) though, yet. I signed up and then they emailed me and said no dice for now.

And since I have Tesla PowerWalls…this could be a great option as I would just use off peak to charge the PowerWall batteries and then run on those during peak.

I spoke with a rep at PSE trying to find the TOU signup info (it was intentionally buried apparently) who said 317 rates average the same current rate to encourage shifting away from peak use with less penalty for peak use.

As far as Peak Time Rebates:
Peak Time Rebate Credits will be calculated by comparing a Customer’s past usage metered to the usage metered during the Event Day. For the purposes of this service, past usage metered shall be calculated by examining the usage metered for the ten business days preceding the Event Day, excluding weekends, listed legal holidays, and any other Event Day(s), to determine the Baseline Days. Baseline Days shall be the three days in the ten-business day period with the highest usage

Only about a quarter of my monthly power use is EV charging, and 2 adults WFH daily. So unfortunately PSE’s TOU wouldn’t benefit us much at the moment. Nice to see options opening up for people though.

Kind of sad that I remember the normal rate being close to the new TOU rates as recently as 18 months ago!
