Keeps me 'on my toes' which is kind of dangerous while wearing cycling shoes for clipless pedals.
Should definitely try a different shoe.

My PAAK seems to be pretty quick to respond if I approach the truck from the front or rear however, if from the side (like there's several empty parking spaces in the lot and I'm heading toward the drivers door), it is slower to respond.

Mine usually works great but every time it doesn't why does it always seem to be raining and I'm standing there in the rain pulling out my phone... Also the walking to the tailgate or hood and the truck locking drives me bonkers.

I have this same experience and frustration, I hope they get a fix for it

Also after the update in July, the door unlocks but I still get a warning that I need to present the key when trying to shift into drive or reverse. I have to get my phone out, or the fob out of my pocket and wait like 10 seconds and then it lets me go.

When I first got my Mach E, the PAAK was really flakey and I ended up having to use the backup passcode to start it 3 different times. After 6 months and a few OTAs it has worked very well for the last year. It responds to my phone from 20 feet away in any direction, much better than thr Rivian. And the Mach E has never had any vampire drain issues.

The R1T works fine at home because I do not auto lock it, so opening the doors always wakes it up. But when away from home it almost never unlocks until I am standing right by it or pulling the phone out of my pocket.

I can understand PAAK being inconsistent, but the fact that the Fob based proximity locking/unlocking is problematic boggles my mind.

Like how did this get released? Did they seriously think customers would enjoy standing around waiting for their vehicles to let them in? Or having the vehicle lock on them while their walking around a vehicle just to get something?

It's also extremely inconsistent so its hard to reproduce an issue on demand.

I haven't asked for service to fix it as I've always had other things that mattered more. Or I had hoped that things would improve with SW updates. They have to some degree but not nearly enough.

For the record my vehicles is a 6XXX VIN so its fairly early production. They've likely improved since then.

Has anyone noticed PAAK is significantly worse with the new software update?

We just picked our R1S up on Friday. Initially phones paired at the service center and we drove 4hrs home with no issues (but I also had the fob in my other pocket). Saturday I realized PAAK wasn't working when I went to leave without the fob. I was able to wake & unlock with the app, but it didn't recognize the phone. Had to use the card to drive. Had more problems today.

I discovered that the audio Bluetooth was connecting, but the phone key was not connecting. After a long process (multiple tries, and restarting the R1S an my phone a few times) I forced it to forget my phone and got it re-paired. PAAK worked for a few hours, but after it went to sleep at home and I woke it with the app, it wouldn't connect on Bluetooth again. My wife's phone is having the same problem. Brand new pixel 7s. Installed the update last night. Had the problem before the update as well as after.

I think it is a Bluetooth connection problem.

Just picked up my R1S a couple of days ago. All great except for one issue. You guesed it my phone unlocks the car from inside the house as i'm walking around. upstairs and downstairs, and has forced me to disable my phone for proximity locking. I have another place and drove here yesterday and the same thing happened. Phone works from too far away but sometimes I have to stand next to it for it to work. Fortunately FOB seems to work. Will watch this thread.

You can just disable proximity locking at home in the menu. Problem solved.

I think the inconsistency we see between the OTAs is their attempts to find happy compromise between drain and how much of the car to keep awake for sake of proximity and PAK awareness.

i turned that off after giving it a week and haven't turned it back on since.

its frustrating enough that the key fob is slow or takes multiple clicks to respond. its embarrassing standing there in front of my vehicle like an idiot staring at my truck.

Mine seems to work best when approaching from the passenger side. Second best is from the front, third from driver's, worst from the tailgate.
