How would Rivian/Chase be able to make low APR work (for them)? Low down payment, 6-7 yr term?

Refreshed ‘25 is possible. Would not be first time for a manufacturer to sell next model year more than 6 months ahead of actual start of new year. There are some selling MY25 already. If Normal has resumed already, it takes them less than 2 weeks to build a car.

Thanks to this thread, I think it's time to make a new thread about what that mysterious deal could be.

My vote is for a special APR. Perhaps 0.99% like Tesla had been promoting. I don't anticipate Rivian further dropping actual prices again yet since they still have several other demand levers they could pull.

Promotional interest rates would probably push me to pull the trigger on a new DM R1S instead of looking at the secondary market. A big interest rate reduction would be a big enough incentive to make up for the cost differential.

Rivian pays a chunk of the interest of the loan up front, it gets packaged as a lower percentage to the customer. I think the high interest rates right now are definitely causing people to sit on the sidelines, especially for longer loan durations that make the payments "affordable".

We're talking about vehicles that are already built, that are otherwise depreciating assets. Rivian needs these off their books to make Q3/Q4 numbers look better.

I just got an email saying that they're redoing my contract for my Saturday delivery due to "a price reduction that was just announced today"... I'll post when I get more details.

edit: I ordered a 2024 R1S PDM Max from the shop. I don't have the contract yet but in my Vehicle Summary, it looks like they reduced the max pack price by $4000. Max was a hard pill to swallow that I went back and forth on, this is nicer!

So my delivery was bumped up to today from next Thursday when I sent a text Monday asking for an update. This morning I had a minor panic attack when I got an email that my pickup had been canceled. A minute later I got an email that my appt had been re-scheduled for today but at 1pm instead of 2pm. I then got another email saying I had to re-sign some documents. Went and did that. They looked exactly the same as the ones I had signed earlier in the process. It’s a 2 hour drive to the Portland SC so I sent a few texts asking for some explanation but also that I would be there at the new time. It’s now been a couple hours and I still have heard nothing. I went onto my dashboard just now and while looking at things I arrived and my transaction summary. The truck now appears to be a lower price, my monthly lease payment has dropped by about $60, and my due at signing is now about $400 less(we already paid the larger amount via bank transfer so not sure how or if we will get refunded the difference. I’m now leaning on them announcing price/lease reductions on the 23’s and 24’s in shop. Leaving home in about 45 minutes to get to service center by 1pm. I’ll post an update after the appt and delivery(hoping it happens).

I finally heard back from my “guide” he told me that the canceled appt, re-schedule and new docs to sign are because of a MSRP reduction announced today(I don’t think publicly yet) and that triggered the changes but he said I’m good to go for my new pickup at 1pm today. He did say I would get new leasing docs to sign via email and those would have to be done before pickup. I have not seen them yet and sent a text as I’m heading out the door to drive 2 hours. He responded that if they had not arrived by the time I get there we will be able to know them out onsite. Hoping all goes well and my 2 hour drive back will be in my new R1T!
