Hi. I remaining totally positive and delighted with our 2023 R1S, 20"AT at 25000 miles. We just got back from a 2300 mile round trip to Seattle from Orange County California, taking 4 days both ways and checking out lots of cool places. Weather ranged from 103 degrees to 30 degrees, pouring rain, wind, and fog. We took lots of back roads and flogged the 5. We went off-road in mud.

No problem! Our car remains a total delight. I've had lots of really nice cars and this one tops them all, and it's not close. I will never replace it with an internal combustion vehicle.

We stopped at 9 RAN chargers which were totally seamless. $0.36/KwH, 3 Tesla chargers which were also seamless but expensive $0.60/KwH, and one EVGo, which sucked and was expensive.

It was another exceptionally fun adventure in our totally reliable and fun to drive beast (that excels passing and climbing especially).
Props to Rivian!

Seems like a great trip report like that should include at least a couple pics so we can live vicariously through your adventures 🧐

If you're going to charge at Tesla Superchargers and consume more than about 100 kWh in a single month, it's beneficial to sign up for their $12.99/month subscription. You can drop the subscription the following month if you don't plan on continuing to use the Tesla network. The membership generally gives something like an $0.11/kWh discount, but it is apparently specific to each site. If you do that route, just be sure to initiate the charging session from the Tesla app BEFORE you plugin your vehicle to get the discounted rates. It looked like the membership rates were $0.45 to $0.49 per kWh on the Tesla sites I checked in northern CA. I recently paid $0.38/kWh at the Tesla sites in KS and CO.

I’ve done that route as well although mostly I stayed on I5 for time efficiency.
Great to hear of your positive experience.
I agree, an amazing vehicle.

Sounds like an amazing trip and glad to hear the Rivian is still rocking it for you. If you have some time, would be interested in your stops as this sounds like a fun trip, off roading and all.

Super! I get so tired of some folks whining about anything less than perfection. The R1T is exceptionally nice. Drive well.

Nice trip. There are RAN chargers all the way up the coast on 101 from Corte Madera CA (north Bay) all the way up to Portland OR. It takes longer than i5 but is a gorgeous drive. I live along that route and pretty much the only time I don't charge from a RAN is on the occasional free chargers I find.

You can also cut over from 101 at Crescent City, CA to i5 at Grants Pass, OR and still experience much of the beautiful coastal and redwoods.

Wanted to chime in and say how nice it is to hear about another positive experience. We’ve only had our 2024 R1T for about 4.5 but have taken it on a few roads trips (for cycling), and nothing as long as your, but we’ve had nothing but great time barring expensive EVgo charging. Charging in rural parts of Texas can get a little dicey. Don’t expect to ever go back to an ICE vehicle and thinking of replacing my wife’s MB GLK with an R1S or R2.

Yeah, my daughter and I road tripped to Seattle from SoCal to see Metallica in my previous EV just a couple of weeks before our R1S delivery… from the SF Bay we worked our way towards Eureka and then cut back over to the 5 at the Umpqua River in Winchester Bay. From Eureka to Winchester Bay was one of the most stunning drives I’ve been on in recent memory. Hopefully next spring or summer I’ll road trip up there again. Highly recommend.

Cool trip! I'm curious about the back roads you took. Any scenic routes you'd recommend specifically? I'm always looking for new adventures in my Rivian.
