I see a lot f threads that describe porpoising. I have a new R1S gen 2, dual max, 20” wheels 275/60/20.

porpoising is really bad at 60 mph.

when I first drive away, after about 10 seconds, just getting out of driveway or parking lot, I hear a motor running. Sound like it’s coming from the back up high.

it’s been cold. 10 to 18 degrees F,

Range has been terrible (heater, seat heater and stirring wheel heater on). 1.5 m/kw

Last night I returned home, 8 degrees. Plug vehicle in. The drivers side rear wheel was making noise. A motor or something running. After hearing it I thought I should record. Listen to sound. It lasted about 30 to 40 seconds.

is this a known issue? Is there a solution to porpoising?

That sound is the air compressor. It’s loud because of the temperature most likely. Air suspension and cold weather together mean that compressor will be filling more than normal.

The efficiency reduction in cold weather is common for all EVs, nothing new there. The motor running you’re hearing is the same compressor sound most likely.

The porpoising might have to do with your ride height and suspension settings.

What ride height was the car in? That being said, the wheelbase on the R1S is notorious for purposing. It’s inherent to the car.

It becomes less pronounced in regular height, and more pronounced on low.

Thanks. I just don’t know why the compressor is running so long after I have exited the vehicle.

I keep trying to change ride height to reduce or eliminate the porpoising. No luck. Tried kneel mode. Turned off. Tried auto, tried standard height.

porpoising is really bad.

I opened a case, but I see a lot of comments on porpoising, but I don’t see any stated solution.

what have others done to eliminate porpoising?

I think you answer your own question.

Thanks. I drive in all-purpose mode. Says it’s Standard ride height in city, low on highway. Maybe turn off auto and set the drive height to standard? Will it stay at that height? I assume auto is only controlling ride height.

The vehicles I test drove did not porpoise.

I think you answer your own question.
Thanks. But everything I’ve tried has not solved the problem.

I was hoping others had the same issue and could report the solution. I can work with support. Will update on what I learn.

I don’t think this is normal and think they will find an issue with air suspension.

Test driving and finally owning and driving your own streets are vastly different.
These cars purpose, widely known. Solution is get an R1T. As stated, alleviate via height.

Agree. All the porpoising complaints were for Gen 1. Everyone seems to agree that Gen 2 R1S fixed the issue.

I have some highway stretches with rhythmic bumps that I've noticed in all my cars. I haven't particularly noticed a porpoising issue with the R1T but was playing with the suspension stiffness settings, and ironically found the ride more stable on 'stiff' on that particular ride. Might be worth trying the firmness settings.

If the compressor is running way too much and there is porpoising perhaps there’s a leak in your air suspension or a seal that’s contracting enough that it leaks in the cold.

I don’t believe Gen 2 has fixed the issue. I have front to back movement in an R1S that is bad enough to cause some car sickness on a regular basis.

That is how severe it is.

I noticed if I sit in driveway and change height, it seems to go down well. If I go up, it blinks a long time, then goes solid. Not sure if it’s normal.

how fast does your vehicle move between ride height? It appears to blink while adjusting. Then goes solid. Does it go up and down at the same speed?

I leave ride height in normal letting the car manage it. The compressor isn't on that often and I don't notice the porpoising like you stated.
