I would go with a set of 4 Michelin and get the rebate for buying 4 tires. You can have Discount Tire / America's Tire match any tire deal including Costco to make sure you are getting the best out the door price. Either way I would be looking at getting 4 tires and some sort of discount for buying 4 tires.

Michelin makes great tires.

I'd go with the michelins over the Pirellis as well if those were the only 2 choices.

My 22" Pirellis are just about done and I'm leaning toward going with TOYO Proxes STIII for the summer driving season. Second choice is between Continental Terrain Contact H/T or the Nokian One HT.

OR, I'll just get the Continetals and sell my 20" set of tires/wheels. I'm having a hard time deciding.

I put the Michelins on my R1S about 9k miles ago. I went with the 115s, my opinion, they are quieter and smoother, handle well in dry and wet. Maybe give up a little in efficiency, like .1 miles per kWh. I would not hesitate to put them on for the next set.

In my experience, Michelin tires are in a league of their own. I have them on both of my vehicles and I insisted that both of my adult children have them on their cars as well. Piece of mind outweighs any extra cost in dollars.

6,000 miles on the Defenders now. Just took them over Teton Pass in the snow a few hours ago. Took them to White Pocket several months ago. Phenomenal tires. #1 rated on Tire Rack.

And living room quiet.

Agree with most others - Michelin. Discount would only install the 119's. They are heavier. It is noticeable. Efficiency seems to have suffered in town, which you would expect. I do a lot of hwy driving (400 miles/wk) and I *think* hwy efficiency is down a bit, but not much. Hard to tell with different winds/temps/etc. But the biggest difference - and it's huge - is the Michelins are MUCH quieter. Much. And a better ride.

If HWY efficiency stays "good", I don't care about city - always charging in town. I wouldn't want to lose much on the hwy.

Hi,

Perhaps not the point of your post, but I just rotated my Pirellis and there is a 3 32" difference in wear betweeen front and back. Did you also experience this and is that the reason for replacement?

I don't want to thread hijack but I'm really struggling to understand why these vehicles chew through front tires.

Thanks in advance.

I think because they are so heavily front biased. Having a heavy vehicle that is mostly in fwd, does all the braking and steering with the front is too much for the tires.

I have Michelin tires on all three of our other cars and so were their previous sets. They have few faults.

Because R1 is biased towards FWD. On the freeway for dual motor and conserve mode on quad, R1 is a FWD vehicle. Also higher percentage of regen braking is done by the front wheels.

The load index of 119 vs 115 is use case dependent. If you tow or load heavily (cargo/payload), might be a consideration. If you do not tow or load heavily, 115 is the way to go on the LTX M/S2.

The heavier tire increase the unsprung mass and degrade handling, and efficiency. I have the 115 mounted on my 22" R1S and through one tire rotation. Both front and rear were almost identical wear (I don't use conserve mode, except on a long drives/road trips).

Curious why they would not put the 115s on for you. 115 is 5,358 which is above the 4960 max GAWR. They did the 115s on my R1S, I think the difference between the 116 OEM and 115 defenders is a big part of the much smoother ride.

the reason for me to switch just 2 was….i busted one of them and Costco recommended that I change 2 and not all 4….also I have a quad motor R1S….and I havent really checked the tread on all of them….did get rotated at 7500miles…hope this helps

Which is COMPLETE bullshit because They say the 115's ARE compatible with the R1T on their website.

Washing my car the other day, I noticed my OEM 22” Pirellis were at the replace mark at 21000 miles.

Just got the Michelins put on today by Mavis (similar to Discount Tire in NJ) and the difference is night and day! All the comments here and in other threads don’t lie! Ride quality and road noise is very much improved over the OEM Pirellis. I drove around going nowhere this evening for fun just because the improved ride quality made it feel like a brand new car.

FWIW, Mavis didn’t give me any crap at all about putting 115s on.
