Picked up the DUNE & HVAC already broke!

This must be very frustrating. Annoying enough the HVAC doesn’t work, but it not being caught during the inspection process is doubling annoying. At this point they should be catching these things. No excuses.

Just picked up my Dune 2 weeks ago & immediately dropped off for stealth PPF. Really love the color, styling & handling. Weather was mild the day I picked up so I didn’t test the HVAC. I assumed the delivery team had tested it… few days ago, I tried running the A/C and it wasn’t working. Tried heat and also nothing. Multiple hard resets did nothing. I don’t hear the heat pump at all so I figure it’s dead. Service scheduled. So frustrating that a brand new vehicle doesn’t have a functioning HVAC.

I hope Rivian repairs your HVAC swiftly. I gotta say, I’m generally not into matte wraps but it seems great on the Dune. Sharp!

Welcome to the real and imperfect world. Rivian will fix it under warranty. It's possible the HVAC worked upon delivery. Stuff happens. The PPF is a waste of money, but otherwise the California Dune edition is a great value. It's essentially a Tri with over $5000 in options and nice paint and interior color thrown in for free. Drive well.

I had a similar issue. Ac worked for a few minutes during my inspection. Accepted car. Was about to leave and thebAC stopped working. Busted high pressure hose. Was fixed in a week. Yesterday the right front vents stopped blowing cold. So that will be added to the growing list of issues for my service appointment weeks from now.

"Limited" to the number of issues they can introduce, apparently.

There is no excuse for the most basic of functions in the vehicle not working, being in proper order on the delivery day, i.e climate, infotainment, signals, alignment, suspension/height adjustments and so forth.

Now, we all know, since the OP had another Riv, the SC issues and delivery issues. For future readers of this thread, check, test the T/S before you drive away with it. I think the OP should have known better.

I hope they expedite your service, of course fix it and give you token of appreciation, for their mistake.

You guys with your Dune edition issues are making me nervous. Here I was reading anecdotes on reddit that the Dunes were generally in better shape being a "Limited Edition" but sounds like that's not the case and my R1S Dune arrives in 3 weeks.

Given I keep hearing stuff like this, I feel like odds are I'm going to find something to prompt me to decline delivery. We went through taking delivery of a flawed, direct from factory car with my wife 6 years ago and the promised fixes never got resolved so we've just lived with them. This car is over twice the cost and I don't want to live through that frustration again. I did find a thread that had a delivery checklist that I'm reading through.

What is "T/S"?

I think they're basically a stock R1T/S but with different interiors, paint, and wheels, so problems may exist. I would just be sure to check all the usual things, and adding from personal experience, I would definitely try out all of the suspension modes and maybe hit the camping self-level to make sure there's nothing weird with the compressor or suspension. Outside of the noisy suspension exhaust when lowering, mine didn't have any issues.

My irritation is partially with myself for forgetting to check that, but also with the delivery team since that issue would have been obvious, assuming the suspension was tested prior to delivery. I really hope someone didn't test, testing and hearing all the air rushing out then signing off on it isn't a good look.

I don’t have a dune but have a Gen2 R1S that has already been in the shop for this issue. Heat gave out during a snowy time here. 3 weeks later, it’s in the 80s and a/c gave out. I really love this vehicle but hate the QC issues. I guess I need to make 3 or 4 attempts before filing a lemon law claim on my lease. Bummer since the SC is 100mins away (could be worse I guess).

Oh, yes. SC distance could be worse. Try 298 miles away. I accepted that as part of delivery, and have not had any issues with mine that required SC visit.

The new Dune color is my personal favorite, but weirdly enough I dont like it as much matte. Kinda surprised.

Yowza. That’s far.
I was able to get A/C working by turning on the third row fan—not sure why this works, but it does. A/C doesn’t kick in at all if it’s just the first and/or second rows, so something is not right. This tip won’t help R1T drivers but may help if your R1S v2 has a/c on the fritz.
