I cracked the side-view mirror on the passenger side of my R1S (mirror-to-mirror contact with FedEx truck; FedEx truck mirror was fine). The BLIS still works, the camera in the mirror still works and the mirror fold and unfolds without a problem. Rivian told me that I need to have the mirror replaced by a Rivian-certified repair shop. Rivian Service will not repair it. The repair shop quoted me $2,900 for the replacement. They stated that it's not a matter of simply swapping out the cracked mirror. They have to disconnect the mirror housing and the various elements from the rest of the rest of the vehicle, swap out the mirror, reconnect everything and calibrate it. That sounds right, but $2,900 seems like a crazy amount of money for that process. Anybody have experience with similar repairs? Thanks.

The certified shops are outrageous cost wise. Depending on color there are a few on eBay. You could replace yourself then have service recalibrate.

I did the same, I was able to piece it back together so it's not obvious. You can pick one up on eBay but I was told by a Rivian service tech that it will need to be recalibrated which Rivian may or may not due since the part wasn't purchased from them or one of their authorized service repair centers. I ended up leaving it as is and will deal with it later. You can replace it yourself, the work is easy but will take a bit of patience. When it warms up I might take it on. Keep us posted what you decide to do.

Thank you. I only need the mirror glass, which I found on eBay, as you and others suggested. I'm a little surprised that replacing the mirror glass, which pops into and out of the assembly fairly easily, requires much calibration. I understand the need for calibration if the entire assembly has to be replaced.

Mirror alone should not need calibration. It’s just like any other 2 axis motorized car mirror. Connect harness for heating and antiglare elements, clip back on.

So replacing a side view mirror is $2,900?? Holy cow!!!

I thought a $1,600 windshield and $2,600 glass roof was bad, but this one takes the cake.

Rivian glass is extra super expensive. Good thing there's not much of it in the truck o_O

And people wonder why they total vehicles so readily now vs repairing them. Replacement parts are super expensive, if you can even get them... and it seems every part needs some sort of $$$ "calibration".

I think the "it needs calibration" thing is just the excuse they use to deny selling the owner parts.

I replaced the mirror glass on my Model Y because I wanted a cool tinted mirror. You simply pry the old mirror glass out of the ball/socket, unplug heater + dimmer wire, connect both leads to new mirror glass, pop the new mirror glass back in the mirror motor assembly socket. A true 5 min job, no tools required and no calibrating anything.

If it's a Gen 2 there are 3 cameras in the mirror housing (the cameras that used to be in the fender). I could see that requiring calibration

I know, but he's just replacing the mirror glass, not doing anything with the housing or camera.

I was told only when you replace the entire mirror assembly, replacing a mirror shouldn't need any calibration. Though even replacing the mirror assembly I'm not 100% sure on that if it's like for like.

Now that I think about it. Replace it yourself and see what happens. Worst case is you need calibration. A well designed system will recalibrate itself. Just saying

Thanks, all. I’m going to replace the glass and see what happens.

I keep being told changing wheels and size needs calibration. Well I haven’t blown up yet and now my Speedo is more accurate lol. It’s a lazy excuse and the impact on my insurance premium is starting to piss me off.
