Just making another post to give positive affirmations that these things are great for road trips. Smooth, comfortable, and gobbles gear!

Made a NYE trip from SE PA to Stowe VT. 400 miles one way, 2 RAN stops each way, 0 issues. 70-75 mph, cold temps and averaged ~1.9 kwh on the way up, 2.3 on the way down. Used Holyoke MA, West Lebanon NH, Queensbury NY and Newburg NY - all worked great. Btw, Lebanon has a good soup dumplings spot in the strip mall. Queensbury had the newer RAN chargers (longer cable) and a good diner. Loved that I could make the trip keeping all the $ with Rivian.

Only negative was the blocked EV chargers at Stowe - one was a Toyota Hybrid (why?) and to the guy with the white R1S NJ plates, who blocked a charger all day and never plugged in, boo! you know better. There were 3 other Rivians in the lot that would've probably loved to plug in.

Why didn’t you visit one of the ski “mountains” near home in PA?

Ha! For funsies mostly. We usually road trip It to to the bigger ski areas for Xmas - less crowds (not that any of it compares to out West). It was also borderline 60 degrees and raining when we left. SE PA weather is more like MD these days. (VT wasn't in much better shape but still had natural snow).

I’m not much of an authority on the topic, but my friends who travel all over skiing think VT is pretty great. I just couldn’t miss an opportunity to take a shot at PA skiing :)

Thanks for the good info! Glad to hear charging was easy and uneventful. Headed up to Okemo next week from SEPA and planning to stop in newburgh. The house we rented has a charger so hoping only the one stop is needed on the way there and back.

Leaving with 100% and no need for a buffer when you get there, should be doable. I stopped 2x because I wanted 100 miles to spare. The public chargers in Stowe were competitive to get a spot.

Have fun! Everything was rained out this week but fresh snow again today.

Yep, I've traveled from Lancaster to Stowe (and other VT ski resorts) a few times, all before RAN became an option. It's always been pretty straightforward on the road, but often a little dicey at the actual resorts.

There used to be a DC Fast option at Alchemist Brewery, although it was not 100% dependable. And it looks like maybe they took that out? Or maybe it got moved a short distance up the road to a nearby park?

Did you loop to hit the four? I have used three of these with awesome experience. I was at Newburgh New Year’s Day if that was u in the lot around say 1-2. Stopped in.

what gen?

Literally my biggest ‘complaint’ is the nav is too conservative. I started from Gore in adk with 90 percent in my launch edition.

Newburgh is like 80 miles from my house but nav gave me the exclamation point of sadness saying not enough range from gore (240 miles). Well, 2:45 of hard driving and I pulled up to Newburgh with like 54 miles. I could have slowed to constant 70 and made it home without charging fine.

didn’t matter as family wanted a bathroom break, but that is the biggest issue I have with Rivian on a regular basis.

Quite happy with my early adopter vehicle.

ps there is a friendly s a 6 minute walk from the Queensbury charger. Kind of rare these days and cool for kids.

I didn’t track on the down, but on the way up, 220 miles in, rain with 28-43 degrees, I got 3 percent above epa, equaling 277 miles over that period based upon both my mileage tracking and the electricity rivian pumped in (which is gross of any loss from dcfc so even more effecient).

That ties to about a 5 mile range loss from my first long road trip 2 years ago that pro forma’d to 282 miles of range. So 1.5 percent loss or so. And it is really just a difference as arguably the rain made this trip less effecient.

good stuff.

Thanks for the info. These was part of my regular trips (with Sunapee added) when I lived in NYC. Lebanon was a great addition. Now hoping for a new RAN or two in mid/southen NH that I am in MA. Trips to Sunapee are still through mostly limited fast charging areas (other than Manchester mall area).

Yes, just for fun to see the difference in the routes. We're in the Philly burbs and I-95 through NY and CT isn't a ton of fun. Too much time sitting in traffic.

I dont think we got there until 3-ish but it was a busy spot. 3 Riv's came and went while we were there and Nav showed 4/6 available most of the drive down.

I don't mind the conservative nature of the routing. I've used it for 7-8 road trips since delivery in March (12k miles already!). My only complaint is you have to do a lot of manipulating to get the route you want. I tend to just navigate from RAN to RAN vs the entire trip and it then gives me the direction/option I'm after.

I started from Gore
How was it? With the rain we saw in Stowe, I can't imagine anything south of us was much better. Day 2 was great though and of course, 18" of fresh snow the day after we get home. :(

Meh but no crowds and lots of fun with our crew. Actually spring skiing most days. Last days two inches transformed into packed powder.
