My SC charged $60 for my rotation, but I don’t think they did any balancing. No ”Courtesy” inspection charge was added. Seemed fair to me.
Yea, took me 3 weeks to get the guy from the SC on the phone, but he immediately confirmed that they overcharged me by $86 for a tire rotation and offered to send a refund. Insane it takes that long to get them to fix a simple billing issue.

And all these people mentioning Americas Tire, I'm on the east coast, Rivian doesn't have any deals with an east coast tire place, Americas Tire or their affiliates are not within 200 miles of me.

Anyone else had Rivian overcharge for a tire rotation? I had mobile service do some warranty work, and figured I'll throw in a tire rotation at the same time. The ticket said "do a tire rotation", I watched, they did a tire rotation (though didn't really follow the pattern, did front to back only).

Then I get a bill, says $100 for a rotation and balance, they didn't balance, I don't even know if the truck had a balancing machine. And then it says "Courtesy inspection" and they billed for $40, I never asked for that, and how the hell do you bill anything for something called a "Courtesy inspection"?
Rotate and balance is free at Discount Tire if you are a tire customer, not necessarily for the Rivian (yet). They are trained, have the pucks, and do excellent work.

As I posted above, the closest discount tire is > 1000mi away, the closest Dunn Tire (owned by Discount Tire) is 200+mi away.

SC guy said it's an internal code that's supposed to be credited back (so I think it's the code for the labor hours for the tech that they are suppose to discount down to zero).

Not sure why anyone would pay for mobile service to do a tire rotation when America's / Discount Tire will:
- Balance your tires. Mobile service does not, and balancing is a MUST given the rapid and uneven tire wear on these vehicles.
- 9 times out of 10 will do it for free.
Possibly because there are no America's / Discount Tire within a couple hundred miles of your home?
Closest America's / Discount Tire to us is in another state and 140 miles away which would mean a 280mi road trip + at least $75 in tolls to get there and back.

I would definitely move then. Kidding...my point was really geared toward the importance of getting your tires balanced when rotating. While I appreciate the convenience of mobile service, for the same price you might as well take it to a shop and get them balanced.

I've done two 5-tire rotations on my R1T in the past year in my driveway. I haven't had them balanced and don't have any vibrations or random pulling (yet). I'll continue along this path until it's time to replace these tires. I figure since I have a perfectly good and new spare in the well, I may as well rotate it into the mix for this first set of tires.

Ah, sorry, I missed that in your post. Regardless, I would still want to find a tire shop to rotate and balance rather than a Rivian service van without the necessary equipment. I carry my own pucks in case I need tire service while on road trips.

Yea, I'll be honest, I only did the Rivian Mobile service because they were coming for warranty work anyways, figured see what they do. The pics from the EDV mobile service units show they can do a balance.

I'm not sure I'd request a balance though, probably only if it feels like it needs it

The Rivian Mobile Service vehicles do have a tire balancer onboard, if the tech skipped the balancing while doing the rotation he took a shortcut at the customer's expense.

When I last had the tires rotated, the mobile tech, as part of the "courtesy" inspection, noticed some seepage around the front passenger-side drive unit. I had to take the truck to the Tualatin SC and they replaced the seals under warranty.

He also checked tread wear, inflation, and wear on the rotors and pads.

The mobile tech also topped up my washer fluid with some of the "good" stuff!

I posted something similar on another thread, but my point was that at some point these businesses will look at other sources of "revenue" ($$$) and just like any other car dealer, the service department is the golden goose. I predict 5 years from now folks will be posting things like "I just got charged $800 for my last service" on this blog..... because nothing will be free forever. Just my $0.02

The vans do, but when they came to me they showed up in an R1T, I didn't see anything that looked like a balancing machine in the bed.
Same, R1T. I wonder if you need to specifically request the balance and/or van.
