does anyone know if updates must be performed in sequence, or do they get superseded?

I'm on 2022.43.2 with 2022.47.0 available. Would rather skip 47.0 if I can go straight to v2023.x

FYI, 2022.43.2 seems stable. I have had no problems whatsoever.

According to the service center that replaced my AXM, yes, they are incremental and must be installed in order.

I can't think of a good reason you would still be on 2022.32.2, surely 2022.47.0 should have rolled out to everyone by now.

Apparently my car failed installing a past update, and the ac had to force install the old one, even though I was technically on the latest and greatest one.

I believe it was the update that had multiple versions because the air compressor broke with the original update

i purposefully withheld installing updates until I had time to determine if they supersede

If you end up more than an update behind I believe it forces them to be applied incrementally.

Mine just skipped over a software update. It showed me as currently on 2023.18.0, with the option to update directly to 2023.26.0. No mention of 2023.22.0 on the update screen. I'd had the option for a while, but put it off. Selected the update to 2023.26.0 and it completed in under 65 minutes as scheduled. If it had installed 2023.22.0 incrementally, then wouldn't it have taken 90 more minutes? A bit surprised. I'll email customer support to see if that's normal.

Well, this is what they told me:

Thank you for reaching out. It's normal for the vehicle to skip over a software update as the newer version will override the previous one if you haven't updated. You should be all good!
Interesting that a 90-minute software update can be overridden by a 65-minute one. Curious what's happening under the hood. But ok!

As a software/hardware guy, I would say it's not surprising at all. But I would also say that it's FAR safer to keep up-to-date because while the upgrade path between two consecutive versions is going to be well-tested, the upgrade when skipping a version is probably not. You're just asking for problems when you do this.

I really don't see any reason at all to deliberately ignore an update, unless you happen to be on a road trip at the time. As a matter of principle, assume an update could fail, so choose your time and place accordingly while making sure you get around to this before the next update comes next month.

I can't picture it (as a software guy only, ha), but fair enough. Apparently Rivian disagrees with you, since instead of simply installing the two updates consecutively, or giving me the choice to do so, they only offered the option to upgrade directly to the newest version. But I think you're right and it does seem risky, and I wish they'd have let me take the normal upgrade path.

Thanks for the advice. This was my first ever software update experience, after taking delivery last month. If you look around the forums, there actually were some significant reasons people put off updating 2023.22.0.
