Blowing up your Rivian Forums inbox??? Do go on...

In other news, it seems Manheim figured out my account hasn't been used professionally in over a decade and finally locked it ?

Never done a private deal. seems like a hassle. but i know everyone does it. :CWL:

There are 3rd party services that handle the money paperwork (contract), title, and everything for a very fair fee of $300. It takes 100% of the stress away.

Seems very reasonable for trade-in. This is the only downside to not using a dealer. With dealers when you’re buying a car they might do a “courtesy trade” if you already have a buyer lined up for your vehicle. They usually charge a doc fee to the buyer but the buyer can also get financing right there too and the dealer handles all paperwork. Plus if you life in a state like Maryland it saves you in sales tax for the new one since you only pay the difference between the cost of the new one and your trade.

what does all of that mean?
if you entered your state, BB is one of a few up-to-date pricing portals dealers use when making you an offer on your trade. The information is fairly accurate to the week. They'll obviously call around to local wholesalers, but they will start at one of these portals.

Finance advance is the amount the dealer can reasonably ask the bank to front when they take your trade. When they cut you a check, it's pretty rare for them to give you money of their own. They are using someone else's money until they either sell it or wholesale it. This is your starting point for negotiation on trade price, as it's what they can easily offer you. If the price goes down from this they are working more profit, if it goes up they are working the other side of the deal or already have a profitable buyer. Or maybe they know something you don't about the market.

Any benchmark price from a non-dealer focused portal is going to be inaccurate (i.e. edmunds, truecar, KBB)

Go forth and prosper.

Interesting thread. Are there regional differences in the online tools like KBB and Carvana? Neither of those sites returned a value for my R1T. The result on KBB was "Sorry, we do not have a value for this vehicle" and the Carvana reply was "You stumped us." Could it be that neither of those has enough Rivian data for my region, and so can't generate a value?

That dealer offer does some reasonable.

Before we took delivery of our R1T we sold our 2019 Macan. We checked prices from Carmax, Carvana and then KBB instant cash offer. The KBB came in the highest and it gives you the name of a local dealer that will accept or beat that price. We took it to the Nissan dealer KBB listed and they gave us $500 over the KBB offer. We were thrilled because we thought they overpaid. It was a dealer that didn't get a lot of Porsche's and I think they thought it would be an easy sell. It sat on their lot for two months before they finally lowered the price.

Long story short, if you haven't tried the KBB instant cash offer, you could try that just for comparison. But it sounds like the dealer that offered you $67k is on the money. They're likely going to throw a $72-75k sticker on it.

Thinking about selling my R1S- adventure- quad motor. 18k. Got in at the pre-price hike prices. been a forum member since forever...but recently changed my forum login. Absolutely loved the vehicle over the last 19 months. Living situation is making it clear that I need to downsize. Will be back when my R2S arrives. ;)

Have an offer from a local used car dealer in Tacoma WA for $67k. Seems very reasonable.

Anyone have any thoughts about resale?
What am I, a used vehicle appraiser? Just sell it. See you in 2026.

Hope no one from that dealer is on here.
Take it.
Run.
Don’t think twice.
Don’t look back.

Even private party is less than that around me.
