140 hp turbo? Overkill. A EREV does not need a powerful gasoline motor. Its job is to be a fossil fuel burning electric generator. Not to drive the wheels and mechanically propel the car. Because of that it also does not need to rev. It can run at constant low RPM. See Mazda's rotary EREV. It won awards in Europe, for its application in the EREV MX-30. But for whatever reason, contrary to past official statements, Mazda chose not to bring that drivetrain to the US (emissions certification perhaps? cost vs profit challenges because of ÂĄ to $ exchange rate?).
