Official email: R1T Tonneau Cover Replacement in the works

My cover sounds a lot worse when it opens and closes now than when I took delivery. Every time I open it, it sounds like the motor is about to fail. Closing it the sound is a bit better, but not by much.

This product is a big help. Spray it in both channels and along each crack between the slats. It's not a final fix, but mine is back and working again.

Why does the letter suggest they all get replaced, but then the FAQ, says "some"?

Presumably some will never fail and may not request a replacement, and others will be manufactured with the new design and will never need it.

The wording on their fix is updates to improve it "against manufacturing build variations." I'm guessing that the tolerances from production mass manufacturing are not up to snuff compared to their earlier / slower pre-production builds.

granted I haven't had my truck very long but my cover has worked great. I wonder if mine is a newer design. I know my bed lights are smoked so they must have changed some things.

My home Depot was out of that but I did have some tallow laying around so I used that instead. Not only does my tonneau cover work great but it also smells delicious!

So basically...either take good care of it and likely be stuck with it someday if it fails out of warranty, or use it like is says in manual, it breaks, and get a new one. I hate things like that.....

They may only replace people's with demonstrated issues. Which makes sense.

Best approach in cases like this, and maybe they will do it, is offer an extended warranty on the cover to something like 10 years, 200k. Then that piece of paper gives peace of mind to keep using it and if it breaks, they will fix it. Otherwise many will mysteriously break right before warranties expire. Just saying...for a freind...
