I am trying to decide between the Nitro Terra Grapplers (LT275/65 R20 126S E1) and Michelin Defender LTX Platinums (LT275/65 R20 126S E1). Defenders are far better rated Wet but the Grapplers are far better Snow. DT has EV Range influence: 2.5 (out of 5 being highest) for the Defenders and 3.5 for the Grapplers. Michelins and rated to be far quieter than the Nittos so there is that too. They are within $4/ea so price is not a factor.

I know this is a Nitto thread but anyone looking at or have the Michelin Defender LTX Platinums (LT275/65 R20 126S E1)?

One is a AT, the other is a AS. Kinda apples to oranges? Both has snow capability to a point, neither are dedicated snow tires for severe or frozen snow. So... depends on what you're after, an AT or a not-so-efficient AS? If snow conditions is #1 priority, Nokian Hakkapeliitta is kind of a industry gold standard. They even have EV versions now (but not sure if there are correct sizes and/or load rating off the top of my head).

Those running the G3, what are you now seeing for efficiency? please include your size also. TY.

I am about 3,000 miles in on mine and with the warmer weather am seeing efficiency similar to the stock Pirelli ATs (~2.2 mi/kWh). Size 275/65R20 SL version.
That makes sense since it’s only 1 pound lighter than OEM pirelli

With claims from those running LT Toyos in mind, I wonder if the stiffer/more substantial sidewalls of LTs for both tires amount to slightly better efficiency; despite weight.

Generally the higher pressures (60+ PSI) can eke out slightly higher efficiency at the cost of ride quality. I’m not sure we’ve seen enough data to say for sure, but I think the Toyos being EV optimized for efficiency has a definite impact.

I have the 20" SL version in EM size. Installed it in December 2024 and efficiency was ~1.8. Recently did a drive to Tahoe and efficiency improved to 1.91. I expect it to keep climbing as the weather gets warmer. My anecdotal experience in the Tahoe drive is the tires are about the same or maybe slightly more efficient than the Pirellis just based on % battery used to get there.

So just a follow up from this post:

The deed is done.

I went with the bland side out! I actually like the look…not sure what that says about me but my wife says my favorite color is taupe.

Driving is real smooth on them. Very quiet on normal roads but a bit of hum on the interstate. Hopefully they will wear in…still quieter than the pirellis.

I checked my efficiency stats right before they swapped them out:

(Please forgive the dirty, smudged screen!)

I will report back after my upcoming road trip!
I just took a screenshot of my efficiency and I am happy to report that after 2300 miles I am still right about the same as the pirellis.

please keep in mind I just got back from a 3 hour (each way) drive to Orlando and back and I am known not to drive too efficiently on the interstate (85-95 mph) so that may be skewing the results a little!

May as well inflate those tires to 48 psi cold, right?

I'm at 1700 miles on my 275/60s XLs and around 1.91 mKw. I'm also running at 51 psi currently. I was not comfortable with the amount of give in the sidewall at 48 (first time AT buyer) and I also could not figure out what the right PSI should be so I've tried 48-55 with 51 feeling the best. I have no data to support this yet though. I am hoping to test this properly once summer road trips start ramping up

I put them on during winter and most days my battery is still in the 40s. Every warm day the average climbs. I am very happy with them so far. Look great and perform well on road

Sub-2 mi/kWh sounds about right for colder conditions.
