Hey everyone,

Took delivery a year ago - elected to get the R1T without a PTC understanding from our guide that it can be purchased from the gear shop in the future. I've been following the updates - understanding the most folks with the Gen 1 PTC are getting them replaced, and folks are now purchasing R1T's with the PTC in their configuration and getting them added at a later date.

What about people like me, who are stuck in the middle - awaiting it to come to the Gear Shop for purchase and install - has anyone heard any updates on timeline for this?

This influencer got hers 23 weeks ago (sigh), and even RJ commented. But what about us? With the snow coming to Truckee, I'd love to sort this asap! https://www.instagram.com/ijustine/reel/C8r9MWVPN2i/

Cheers!

I was told mid to late 2025 a handful of months ago. I would think if it happens in 2025, that would be optimistic. Maybe timing has shifted.

I took delivery of a Rivian in 2022 and was told that the PTC would be made available to me once they finished the redesign.

I am still waiting (technically, my GFC makes the tonneau pretty redundant)

This won't be cheap! I expect this to cost $3,500 if the manual version is $1,800 in the store. This requires 2 wiring harnesses plus the whole bed has to be disassembled. I do plan to make this upgrade. Currently using a disassembled Gen 1 power cover slats as a manual version.

Mine is scheduled to be installed next week.
I purchased it when I bought my 2024 T1.
We'll see how the install goes

Got any photos of how that works to use a disassembled power tonneau? I was wondering if it’s possible to install a used tonneau from eBay that includes the wiring harnesses

We've debated this on another thread. It's highly likely that if you cannibalize ALL of the componentry you need, you could *physically* install a PTC.

The very valid concern that's stopping most of us from trying is: it's likely that the PTC is software locked to vehicles that Rivian has 'enabled' it for. So...once you install it, how are you going to convince Rivian to enable it? And what kind of trouble are they going to give you for reclaiming one from a wrecked vehicle (I could understand how they might have concerns about the potential compromise of those components and how they might lead to damage your vehicle).

Once one person does it, however, hopefully more aftermarket retrofits show up. I, for one, would enjoy reverse engineering one. But again--that software part...

Perhaps, I don't think anyone knows for sure? Agreed it makes sense to be around the $3K mark, but in March they added it to the configurator for $500, so let's see.

Price is one thing, but I'm mostly frustrated by the influencer post then complete silence. Why they elect to treat valued customers this way is beyond me.

So what I did was got the metal slats from a PTC to use as a manual version. Works really well and is water resistant. In the future may plan to get a PTC once offered as an upgrade in gear shop. When I got my 2023 R1T you could not even option it.

Would be a real kick in the nuts for them to offer it in the gear shop before fulfilling existing owners' MVPAs.

You mean like they’re doing right now with the CCS to Tesla supercharger adapter.

Have you posted more details about this anywhere? I would love to do this. Are you able to lock it closed?

Yes, it closes just like any other option you would install. I did not come up with this idea, someone on the forum was selling them for $400 and I picked one up.
