Cool new marketing tool to help folks visualize a road trip as it relates to what charging would be like. Currently only includes the 4 models they have available for purchase: Dual Standard, Dual Large, Dual Max and Tri Max.

Probably a bit optimistic in its calculations. You think you could do Seattle to NY on 11 charge stops with a Dual Max? Not sure even best case scenario that would be doable.

Not working for me.

It didn't work in Chrome but does Safari. I'll have to dig into the settings and see if they are using Javascript or something else I have blocked in Chrome.

It is incredibly optimistic. There is no way I can make it to WI from TN on 1 charge.

Try changing the vehicle, I used the dual standard with 270 mile range.

Tested SoCal to Yellowstone, actually called out the 6 stops I used, only difference was I did a 7th stop right before getting to Yellowstone so I had miles in the park and to get to a charger afterwards.

It's really inconsistent. Seems to think that the tri max will need less charging time compared to the dual max on a 500 miles trip.

A Better Route Planner thinks a Dual Max can make it from New York to Seattle in 10 charges:

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=37f11d4b-3086-4469-919f-ce96c814e87f

Note that is a terrible plan. That's saying "leave at 100%, allow arrival at charger at 1%, allow charge to 100%, and prioritize fewest possible charge stops over time efficiency." and takes 52.5 hours.

Telling it instead 'quickest arrival' takes *FAR* less time but 14 charge stops, even though it's 61 miles more, it's 15 minutes less driving time, and an hour and a half less charging.

It doesn't seem terribly optimistic, but it's assuming tires I don't have. As @CharonPDX noted, I think it's relying heavily on deep charges though, so it's not terribly efficient. For example, from Seattle to Boise, it is adding more charging time with the current large pack or with the tri than I have done in my Gen1 R1T on All Terrains.

That is the same thing I did. It seemed to be reasonable then.

Agree. Also, I'm not seeing an R1 Quad option? Also, not showing Tesla SC options? Seems meaningfully different than ABRP (which Rivian owns), right?

I think it is a more "salesy" approach to help reduce trip charging anxiety for newbies. Those who've actually road tripped with an EV will immediately see all the holes in it. Maybe if you drive 55-60 mph and not in extremely cold or hot weather, would it work for you. Assuming you aren't on 20" AT's either.

Just tried the Trip Visualizer for my FL -> WA trip and noticed these things.

I'm logged in on the Rivian site, so it really ought to know I own an R1T. I'm not some uber elite multi-Rivian owning guy (...yet), so there's only one Rivian I could possibly be looking to take on this trip - my 2024 R1T Dual Large.

First attempt: it fails with a message saying "Oops" and tells me to pick a different destination. I'd set the destination to be generally Seattle, WA. Well, that's weird, so I click it again - cause I'm persistent like that.

Second attempt: it succeeds and gives me a route, but thinks I'm in an R1S - doh! So I slide the slider from R1S over to R1T and give it another shot...

Third attempt: Fail, just like the first one, so I give it another shot...

Fourth attempt: it succeeds and gives me a route, but thinks I'm in a Gen 2 R1T Dual Max... What the heck is going on here? So I corrected that with the drop-down menu (that hadn't been present when I found the slider to pick R1T) and gave it another shot...

Fifth attempt: Fail, just like the first and third ones (are you sensing a pattern?), so I give it another shot...

Sixth attempt: Fail with the same message as 1, 3, and 5th? So much for the pattern... So I give it another shot...

Seventh attempt: Success! I've now got Rivian's idea for what my trip would be like in a Gen2 R1T Dual Large. Not quite what I'm driving, but OK - close enough, and I feel like I'm playing a game with a toddler now so I don't really want to be all that critical of their mistake.

Rivian's plan: 18 stops, including some at Tesla (how did they know I've got an A2Z adapter? Not complaining, but hey). Departure with 100%, arrival with 10%, Charging time 11hr 8min, Drive time 47hr 11min. Stops that include a hotel or overnight charging: 0. Estimation for my endurance as a driver: really freakishly optimistic, perhaps dangerously so. Worth a chuckle: definitely.

Now, what would you pros recommend for a better trip-planning tool? This will be my first truly long trip. I plugged it into ABRP on my phone and got something more or less similar (though I got it on the first try, not the seventh). I'd like to plan where I could constrain the max driving per day and look for lodging that has charging.
