Tesla Universal Wall Connector!
This is a great choice. It comes with the J1772 adapter pre-attached. If you don't need the adapter, just pull the handle out and it is NACS. Effortless. Hardwire only, up to 48A charging. I just installed one and love it.

The best resources I am aware of for all things charging is State of Charge on YouTube. Tom Moloughney does an exceptional job of testing, reviewing, and rating EVSE's and Wall Connectors as well as DC Fast Chargers and all things EV charging.

The Rivian EVSE is junk. Just buy whatever has a good price and good reviews on Amazon. They are pretty dumb devices and there's no reason to pay more.

I'm a big fan of the dumbest EVSE you can find, since the truck can manage current draw and charge times.

That said, the Grizzl-E is my choice.
Same here! I’ve it for almost a year, no issues.

That’s what I used, to make an educated purchase on the wall charger and the adapters I needed when I’m using Tesla superchargers and destination chargers.

Got a couple of Clipper Creek (now Enphase) chargers for the past 10 years with no issues. We got a couple of Nema 14-50 EV outlets, easier to replace charger in case it goes bad compared to hardwire. You can use this outlet to plug in the portable charger that came with your Rivian.

I use Emporia, you can check out the reviews at State of Charge listed above.

It can be hardwired or plugged in, hardwired gives you 48 amps. They have models with J3400 and J1772. I have the J1772 models and easily charge our Tesla.

Very good deal on Amazon at $399 for either connector. I’ve had one hardwired for 2.5 years, picked up one to plug in about 1.5 years ago, no issues and very happy with my choice.
I bought and had an electrician install the hardwired emporia last month. I bought it because of the youtube "state of charge" videos and price. I am pretty happy with it. Of course, I don't know of any different.

I second that.

I've used a home Tesla charger with an adapter (prior to the Tesla Universal charger being available) for 2 years now with zero issues.....You can buy them from Tesla or even at Best Buy. Your pricing for installation will vary depending on some variables (but wouldn't likely be any different from any home charger, regardless of brand.

Perhaps obvious first option Rivian's but I'm seeing Tesla has a comparable one for cheaper. Also if I'm understanding correctly the Tesla connector is becoming the more default standard (included in R2 even) and that might make sense for future proofing.

Any reason to not go with Tesla for an R1S Gen2 other than needing to charge with the adaptor?
I am happy with my hardwired ChargePoint flex. Not an issue with it. Have a 2025 R1T large.

Same here - but in reality any good "charger" will work. Wired preferable. Remember that it is not really a charger - just a smart relay.

One thing against ChargePoint - they do not have thermosensor that will cut the power if it overheats the outlet (if not wired). If you choose nonwired installation, look for a "charger" that has this. I have one outlet melted as a certified electrician used a cheap one.

I got a Rivian charger so that Rivian cannot blame the charger when something does not work. Most of them will work fine though.

Charger manufacturer will get some green credits afaik. So pick who ever you want to give money to.
I have ChargePoint HomeFlex, zero issues. Hard wired

The Grizzl-E 40a units seem to be going for around $250 used on FB Marketplace at the moment; pretty good deals.
