I was told two weeks ago to expect my tonneau cover in early January but then last week I got notification that it was up today. It arrived and the packaging has been seriously upgraded with a thick cardboard box and two thick polystyrene ends to ensure the pieces within the bag are safe.

Good job to Rivian for a seriously improved packaging setup and for being two months early.

Cardboard box and foam. 😂 Looks like any standard packaging. How bad was it before? Just a box and no foam?

Much thinner cardboard and no foam- so corners got damaged regularly.

I should be getting mine in a few weeks. I would guess their manufacturing cost to be around $600 for each of these covers + bag. At current price of $1800, there is plenty of margin to absorb cost of these packaging upgrades.

Hoping price of the powered retrofit isn't outrageous, but also not holding my breath.

Agree.
Comparing to $200 for a tri-fold vinyl tonneau cover on all my trucks (which comes is very good packaging) - that price is crazy high. Yes, it is a way better option that a basic $200 tonneau cover, but I just need to cover my stuff in the bed from rain.
Waiting for a powered retrofit pricing to become available. I hope it won't be $5K.

I have a feeling it will be north of $5k, including labor. Anything less will be in too-good-to-be-true territory.

I am surprised by getting it two months early especially when they have specific week long windows barely two weeks ago. Not sure how or why I moved up.

I could see $4xxx as the price since the labor (if four hours as suggested) would
cost them $500 and then parts - let’s say another $2000, which then leaves room for profit and money towards warranty reserve!

Don’t question it. Just enjoy your new tonneau!

If manual is $1800, the powered will be $3-3.5k. Not pleased to have been forced to remove the powered one.

While not pleased with the wait, finally got the tonneau cover last week. Happy to be off the Maverick tri-fold cover (it served me very well) and satisfied with the manual cover for now. If it wasn’t at the pre-March pricing, would have stayed with what I had and waited for the powered retrofit option. Definitely not worth $1800.

Funny. My clear tape on the box was excellent! Haha. The tonneau and carrying case seems to be fine. Too bad the OTA last night bricked me!

Some high end R1T ready to pick up config had powered tonneau cover options last week.
