New Rivian OEM drawer installed on Gen1

To restate and perhaps add to what others have already said, the accessory drawer opens and closes freely on slide rails attached to the drawer frame. The vehicle recognizes the drawer as an accessory and automatically locks upon insertion to secure the dock frame to the cradle. You only have to unlock via the menu to uninstall the drawer, not to open it. The drawer itself has a fair bit of resistance to sliding so no issues with it sliding open under hard decel (at least not so far).

Also, locks as soon as you put it in, and the screen recognized that its the draw and not the speaker, so you need to unlock via the screen to access. It's not perfect but it works and is 1/2 the price.

I think the common complaint with these is you can not access with the car in drive. It is not possible to unlock the drawer without putting the vehicle in park, which is a hassle. Would be better if you could just lock it when you wanted to (like handing vehicle over to a valet) as opposed to always being locked when driving.

There are other aftermarket options that don't have the RFID tag on it so those wouldn't lock.

I would assume if you just put a piece of duct tape over the tag you could stop it from locking.

I have no issues with the drawer I 3D printed. I have never looked at the screen to see if it recognizes it as a drawer, will need to check that.

Nope. And mine doesn't charge either when docked. Every time I pull it out to use it, it's dead. So I have stopped using it.

Don't you just have to make sure its locked via the UI screen to charge?
When I start hearing the annoying low charge sound, it seems like its unlocked.
Haven't bothered to see what the default state is after a update or soft reset or hard reset, but assuming one of those would be the culprit.

Haven't had this issue in a while, so maybe defaults changed?

Same here. Biggest reason I haven't gotten a non-OEM one. don't use the speaker much.

You can place a piece of electrical tape over the contacts and prevents locking while driving. They say so right on the item page. The OEM version not covering the entire front opening is a killer for me. It’s dumb. Things could Flying out.

Yeahp - I did this back in January before it was officially released. It’s not officially supported because it doesn’t lock to the front guides in the tunnel like G2. Not a biggie, but you could also retrofit that from the G2 if you wanted.

I didn’t notice this earlier but the truck evidently knows you have a drawer installed.

I cannot get mine to lock. I've done a reset too. Looks like i will have to submit a ticket.
