Got to give him some credit. Certainly not single handedly, but his videos push Rivian to improve their product and we benefit.
Rivian has MANY other avenues to gather inputs. A thousand or so engineers and technicians rigorously testing the vehicles under controlled conditions. Many employee owned vehicles providing feedback. Telemetry data from ~100,000 vehicles in the field, etc. I don’t think the OOS videos tell them much they don’t already know.

To the extent Rivian and Kyle communicate I would wager it is more a public relations effort on the part of Rivian as opposed to actual engineering.

If I am thinking about buying a Rivian, I am searching for reviews on YouTube.

I am sure they know of the vast majority of improvements that are needed. However, there is a cost associated with making those improvements and public attention to specific issues likely pushes Rivian to getting them done.

Again, he is not single handedly responsible for vehicle improvements, but you have to give him some credit.

Look for GJEEBS on YouTube. He owns a 2024 R1T. In the late Summer early Fall time frame he did a video on his round trip from Arizona to Pennsylvania. I believe GJEEBS owns a Dual Motor. He has made several videos about his R1T. Also, he owns a 2020 Model Y, 2024 Model 3 and just took delivery of a new Model Y.

I'm sure it's very much PR, but it's also Rivian listening to customers to gauge what to focus on and potentially expedite. They implemented better cold weather charging and thanked OOS for that very video in the release notes, and they also specifically implemented a reddit community request (the owl lock sound). Maybe they're not "big engineering changes," but I think it's hard to dispute that 1) Kyle/OOS has had a notable impact on Rivian's software updates, and 2) in addition to employees and fleet monitoring, Rivian absolutely watches the community to see if there are things worth taking on.

I'm glad I didn't watch his videos before buying my truck, he may have swayed me away from a vehicle I like and have really enjoyed having.
