Hello folks!
There has been some mentions on the topic here and there but my situation is somewhat different as I have a blank canvas.
I'm looking for your opinions on setting up 2x L2 @60 amp hard-wired (..."to self destruct"...ONLY a Metallica quote, couldn't help it!) chargers in my new garage.
- 1x will be for my current G1 R1T
- 1x will be for our future EV. TBD on the brand (as far as two years from now purchase), but likely 800v architecture, DEFINITELY NOT a Tesla
I'm also going to have 1x NEMA 14-50 for a good measure.

Do I go with native NACS, do I stick with J and the Rivian branded charger? What would you do? Thanks!

Hate to promote the ass-hat’s gear, but the Tesla universal Wall connector is your best bet. Has both NACS and J1772 built-in, can perform load management between multiple EV’s and the set-up is very easy. In addition, they come equipped with 24’ cables. Get yourself two of those and you’ll be all set.

edit: I forgot to include that the units are capable of power-sharing or V2H. Can power your home with a proper set-up and compatible vehicle. May want to keep that in mind for your installation.

I second this. Also, the Tesla UWC is competitively priced. I installed one months ago at a rental property and it has been flawless. Have a Tesla gen3 at home also. The other option I would look at is the Grizzl-e Duo and that one is expensive.

Upgrade to 80A feed in case you have a desire for bidirectional charging.

My guys dropped 6-4 over about 25 feet to future proof our EV plans. Only cost me a few bucks more.

Autel units come as either J or nacs so swapping cables must be possible. They also do load sharing and a bunch of features. I'd run separate legs and breakers on a new home.

Rivian is coming with a bi directional unit but it's still vaporware.

Here is all my recommended EV charging stuff. I also like the Tesla UWC but also understand folks who do not want to purchase Tesla. In that case I have the ChargePoint unit there.

The UWC solves the NACS vs J1772 issue because it has provisions for both. Otherwise if you need NACS an adapter is needed. Some other chargers have NACS but right now I like the ChargePoint the best and its been around for a long time.

Dang! I thought I was "future proofing" with going 60 amp! 80 probably is gonna get me over my 400 amp panel since I'm also using a sub-panel for my detached shoppe.

Yeah....this the solution... however, that brand will not be something I would consider for the obvious reasons...

Yes, this is the way. Daisy-chaining the UWCs is also super convenient and saves a lot of hassle and cost to wiring back to the panel for a separate circuit. I'm even considering putting in a 3rd UWC just so I can easily charge from any parking spot.

Only downside I've found is in damp sub-freezing temperatures the adapter likes to freeze to the housing. A heat gun makes quick work of it.
