I am happy to report that the native SiriusXM app sounds much better than when streaming SiriusXM over Bluetooth from my iPhone. Also, if you already have a streaming subscription, you don't need a separate one for Rivian, and you can get the Streaming Platinum plan for $5/month by chatting with the AI bot on the SiriusXM website and complaining it's too expensive and want to cancel, you will get a $5/month offer instantly.

Bleh, I activated the trial today. It sounds like it's running at 64-96 Kbps depending on the channel. Only marginally better than how satellite sounds. Absolutely no comparison to the other streaming options available (or Bluetooth from other services IMHO).

Anyone who likes SiriusXM, I'm glad you got a native player. I just wish they opted for a higher bitrate.

I think it sounds pretty good, actually. Very nice implementation of this app.

If I could ask for one thing though? Allow me to skip to the next station from the steering wheel buttons instead of reaching to the far end of the center screen.

I second that. Who wants to skip a song in 30 second clips? Makes absolutely no sense.

Yes, it helps to call and haggle over pricing. It is much more convenient to have the app reliably come on when I enter the vehicle versus fighting with intermittent connectivity via the phone. Overall, a positive addition.

Should theoretically sound better than actual satellite feed too, given that those streams are total garbage.

But, it only works in areas that have data signals. Satellite worked by me. What's the point?

Oh I'll never understand XM for anything other than live talk radio. At the point where everything is a podcast format, Spotify has everything covered.

With data bandwidth limitations, and different tastes, this thread is further proof Rivian can’t please everyone. Perhaps they should allow local playback from attached storage, through one the USB-C ports, plus deeper range of sound customization on the EQ screen.

The app isn’t just XM. XM bought and merged with Pandora. So you’d get all XM content plus Pandora.

I can't speak for other cars but my last 5 cars were Chevys and Cadillacs. They all let me stream from a hard drive ( I used an old iPod) and had XM satellite. It's my only option in ADK, unless I want to listen to country music and NPR (I dont).

That’s great. But we’re here to discuss Rivians.

My point is the most basic things that most common cars have, Rivians misses. We should be able to have conversation without nastiness and exercising snarky sarcasm on people.

Legacy auto added streaming from attached devices when media storage shifted to digital, decades ago? with emergence of MP3, as a way of staying relevant to changing consumer needs/habits. Internet connected cars weren't a thing then. Ask yourself, in recent times, how often are you outside of cell coverage to not have access to the internet? Satellite reception isn't without limitations either; weather can affect it. My argument for allowing streaming from attached devices (and greater customization of sound quality) in the Rivians is that it could be a means to placate those who keep saying the audio system sounds terrible—i.e. allow them the most amount of control and audio sampling rate they dare to rip and store on their attached device.

The great thing is, just because it isn’t available now, doesn’t mean it won’t be available in the future.

Unlike those common cars mention that will only ever be as good as they were when driven off the lot.

In this case, the exception to the above is *satellite* SiriusXM.

I very much enjoy Sirius, great addition. I like that there are DJs that drop a little knowledge and humor. I love the wide range of stations. If I want to hear an artist, playlist, AI generated list, or album, I head to Apple Music.
