Damn!!! Drivers suck nowadays!! At least when I started driving back in 1980 very few drove at high speeds because our vehicles had such bad brakes you were afraid to drive fast. Now, vehicles have great brakes and powerful engines.. which is like an invitation to speed and run red lights. The accidents you see now are much worse then they were years ago.

There's that, @NY_Rob -- but there's also the fact that modern cars are designed to sacrifice their own lives to save ours. When a vehicle's "crumple zone" works right, humans can walk away from crashes that have severely deformed the vehicles.

Humans have always been wired to take risks. I joke that, "Every human male is born with at least one copy of the 'Watch this!' gene."

Better highway engineering, and better vehicle crash-survival engineering, have lowered our country's death rate per mile driven by quite a bit.

I was getting off the highway and someone ran a red light which caused me and 3 other cars to get into a major accident. I'm so thankful I drive such a strong and safe car, me and my kids came out with virtually no injuries.

Time for a new Rivian.
